The Golden State Warriors have officially waived guard Langston Galloway, the team announced Saturday.

Golden State signed Galloway to a training camp deal last September as they look for possible reinforcements to back up Stephen Curry and solidify their backcourt in the absence of Klay Thompson. Unfortunately while Galloway showed some improvements through three preseason games, it was not enough for the Dubs to consider signing him to a contract.

Galloway averaged 3.3 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.7 assists in the preseason games he played in. He had his best outing against the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday, recording five points, six rebounds and two assists in nine minutes of play.

Langston Galloway played for the Phoenix Suns in 2020-21, though he barely suit up in the 2021 playoffs when Chris Paul and Co. led the team to the NBA Finals. The Warriors added the seven-year NBA veteran to the roster primarily because of his shooting, as he is a career 37.0 percent shooter from deep–having registered 42.4 percent shooting from beyond the arc in the previous campaign.

Given the depth the Warriors have at the guard spot–with the likes of Jordan Poole and Moses Moody impressing so far–waiving Galloway was an expected move.

It remains to be seen if the Warriors will add another player to fill the roster or leave it open for now to keep their flexibility if ever they need a specific player during the season. Regardless, the likes of Jordan Bell, Avery Bradley, Gary Payton II and Mychal Mulder will undoubtedly compete hard in a bid to earn that place on the team.
