At least two registered sex offenders listed their address as the property where authorities believe two men held Cassidy Rainwater in cage, according to official records.
The property on Moon Valley Road near Buffalo had a small cabin, where investigators believe Cassidy was kept, and a small shack. Between Monday and Friday, both buildings were either completely or partially destroyed.
One registered sex offender currently lists their address as the Moon Valley Road property on the Dallas County Sheriff's Department registry of sex offenders.
On that same list, another offender listed their address in Buffalo, but a 2008 court record in a charge of illegal pursuing, taking, or killing of wildlife listed their address as the Moon Valley Road property.
It's unclear how, if at all, these two individuals may be involved in the alleged kidnapping of Rainwater by James Phelps and Timothy Norton.
In a lengthy Facebook post on Thursday, titled "Addressing Fake News," Dallas County Sheriff Scott Rice said "all parties involved with Cassidy Rainwater's case [are] in jail and we expect additional charges to be filed in the coming days."
On Friday, Sheriff Rice declined to comment to KRCG 13 and refused to speak with or meet reporters.
"While I understand the impatience and curiosity of the people, I’m going to give you a piece of advice," Sheriff Rice wrote. "It is not a good idea to listen to 'a crime reporter/blogger' or Tic Tok [sic] videos that is sitting in their apartment or their mommy and daddy’s basement eating Great Value cheese puffs and drinking box wine with grand intentions of being a social media superstar."
Sheriff Rice also condemned the conspiracy theories surrounding the case, including allegations of cannibalism and multiple murders.
On Friday, several visitors stopped by the Moon Valley Road property to photograph the now destroyed buildings. Some of them touted aforementioned theories to KRCG 13.
The larger cabin, believed to be where Rainwater was held in a cage, was burned to the ground Monday night, hours before a brief court appearance by Phelps and Norton, Rainwater's alleged kidnappers.
Yards away, a small shack appeared undamaged on Tuesday. On Friday, that shack was destroyed, collapsed in on itself.
Phelps and Norton are scheduled to appear in court on November 5 for a preliminary hearing.
