As the 2021 Ballon d’Or is set to be awarded next month, many players and managers have now begun to campaign on who should win the award. Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel already has his pick for which player is much deserving to claim this honor.

In speaking during the Trento Sport Festival (via Gianluca Di Marzio's official website), Tuchel laid out a case on why Italian national team and Chelsea midfielder Jorginho should win this award.

“Jorginho deserves to win the Ballon d'Or,” Tuchel said. “He is a very intelligent player, and it is a pleasure to be his coach. He has a great vision of soccer. For me, individual awards don't mean much, it is impossible to make a real comparison between several players of different roles.

“I would like one of my players to win it because I would know what the effect would be. Then Jorginho is a good person and a very good player, but in general, it is not the most important thing.”

Jorginho has garnered much backing to win the Ballon d’Or due to his grand success for both club and country in the calendar year. The veteran midfielder won the 2020-2021 UEFA Champions League with Chelsea in May and then went on to play a vital role in helping the Azzurri win Euro 2020 two months later.

A point of reference to Jorginho's case for this award has been Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric. The Croatian most notably won the 2018 Ballon d’Or following his standout contributions for both Real Madrid and Croatia over the year.

As it stands, Paris Saint-Germain forward Lionel Messi is still being deemed as the favorite to claim this award for what would then be the seventh such win of his career.

In the big picture, Jorginho at the least has a realistic chance at joining Liverpool center-back Virgil van Dijk (2nd in 2019) as the only Premier League players in the past 10 years to finish in the top three for this award.
