Nathan MacKinnon scored his first two goals of the preseason for the Colorado Avalanche in a 4-2 win against the Dallas Stars at Ball Arena in Denver on Saturday.

It was the preseason finale for each team.
MacKinnon made it 1-0 3:45 into the first period and 3-1 at 6:11 of the third period. Mikko Rantanen scored, and Jonas Johansson made 18 saves for Colorado, which opens the regular season against the Chicago Blackhawks on Wednesday.
Denis Gurianov and Jacob Peterson each scored a power-play goal, Braden Holtby allowed two goals facing 20 shots, and Anton Khudobin made nine saves in the third period for Dallas, which opens its regular season Thursday at the New York Rangers.

Blackhawks 5, Wild 1: Jonathan Toews scored his first two goals of the preseason, each on the power play for the Chicago Blackhawks in a 5-1 win against the Minnesota Wild in the finale for each team at United Center in Chicago on Saturday.
Toews missed the 2020-21 season with chronic immune response syndrome. The center increased the lead to 4-1 at 16:27 of the second period and made it 5-1 at 6:18 of the third period.
Toews scored six points (two goals, four assists) in four preseason games.
Alex DeBrincat had a goal and two assists, Ryan Carpenter scored shorthanded, Seth Jones had three assists, and Marc-Andre Fleury made 25 saves for Chicago, which opens the regular season at the Colorado Avalanche on Wednesday.
Ryan Hartman scored, and Kaapo Kahkonen made 32 saves for Minnesota, which opens its season at the Anaheim Ducks on Friday.

MIN@CHI: Toews scores PPG of game on redirection

Ducks 4, Kings 3 (SO): Max Comtois tied the game in the third period and scored the deciding goal in the third round of the shootout for the Anaheim Ducks in a 4-3 win against the Los Angeles Kings at Staples Center in Los Angeles in the preseason finale for each team.
Trevor Zegras had a goal and two assists, Kevin Shattenkirk had two assists, and Adam Henrique scored for Anaheim, which will open its season against the Winnipeg Jets at home Wednesday. John Gibson made 29 saves.
Zegras set up Comtois' goal on a 5-on-3 power play to tie the game 3-3 at 6:02 of the third period.
Gabriel Vilardi scored two goals, Vladimir Tkachev had a goal and an assist, and Sean Walker had two assists for Los Angeles, which will open its season against the Vegas Golden Knights at home Thursday. Jonathan Quick made 25 saves.

Rangers 5, Islanders 4 (OT):Filip Chytil completed a hat trick on a power play 2:06 into overtime to give the New York Rangers a 5-4 win against the New York Islanders in the preseason finale for each team at Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport, Connecticut, on Saturday.
Chytil scored two of the Rangers' three power-play goals.
Mathew Barzal tied it 4-4 for the Islanders with 50 seconds remaining in the third period.
Ryan Strome had a goal and an assist, Vitali Kravtsov scored a power-play goal, and Alexandar Georgiev made 28 saves for the Rangers, who open the regular season at the Washington Capitals on Wednesday.
Barzal and Anders Lee each had two goals and an assist, and Ilya Sorokin made 17 saves for the Islanders, who open their season at the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday.
Strome was injured with one second remaining in the second period after colliding with Islanders defenseman Scott Mayfield, and Rangers forward Kevin Rooney left with an apparent injury in the third period following an altercation with Islanders forward Ross Johnston.

NYR@NYI: Chytil records hat trick on overtime PPG

Maple Leafs 4, Senators 1:John Tavares and Morgan Rielly each had a goal and an assist for the Toronto Maple Leafs in a 4-1 win against the Ottawa Senators at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto on Saturday in the final preseason game for each team.
Nick Ritchie and Pierre Engvall scored for Toronto, which will host the Montreal Canadiens for its regular-season opener Wednesday. Jack Campbell made 18 saves.
Alex Formenton scored for Ottawa, which opens the season against Toronto at home Thursday. Matt Murray allowed three goals on 16 shots, and Anton Forsberg made 14 saves in relief.
Maple Leafs forward Ilya Mikheyev did not play after the first period because of a hand injury. He had an assist on Rielly's power-play goal that made it 1-0 at 11:03.
"We'll know more on Monday," Maple Leafs coach Sheldon Keefe said. "But it's not looking like it will be short term."

Oilers 3, Canucks 2: Brendan Perlini scored his NHL-leading sixth goal of the preseason for the Edmonton Oilers in a 3-2 win against the Vancouver Canucks at Rogers Arena in Vancouver on Saturday.
It was the preseason finale for each team. The Oilers host the Canucks to open the regular season on Wednesday.
Mikko Koskinen made 11 saves in the first period for Edmonton before Stuart Skinner saved 15 of 17 shots in the final two periods.
Phillip Di Giuseppe and J.T. Miller scored, and Thatcher Demko made 15 saves for Vancouver.

Penguins 4, Blue Jackets 3 (OT): Jason Zucker scored a power-play goal 1:18 into overtime to give the Pittsburgh Penguins a 4-3 win against the Columbus Blue Jackets at Nationwide Arena in Columbus on Saturday in the preseason finale for each team.
Teddy Blueger and Bryan Rust each had a goal and an assist, and Tristan Jarry made 26 saves for Pittsburgh, which opens the NHL regular season at the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday.
Sean Kuraly scored his first goal with the Blue Jackets after signing as a free agent July 28. Elvis Merzlikins made 25 saves for Columbus, which opens its regular season against the Arizona Coyotes on Thursday.
Lightning 4, Panthers 3: The Tampa Bay Lightning scored three third-period goals for a 4-3 win against the Florida Panthers at FLA Live Arena in Sunrise, Florida, on Saturday in the preseason finale for each team.
Pat Maroon scored his first two goals of the preseason after Brayden Point scored to get Tampa Bay within 3-2. Alex Killorn scored in the first period, and Andrei Vasilevskiy made 45 saves for the Lightning, who open the NHL regular season Tuesday against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Kevin Connauton and Sam Reinhart scored, and Sergei Bobrovsky made 25 saves for the Panthers, who open their season Thursday against the Penguins.
Sam Bennett did not play for Florida after the forward entered COVID-19 protocol.
Sharks 4, Golden Knights 0: Adin Hill made 25 saves for the San Jose Sharks in a 4-0 win against the Vegas Golden Knights at SAP Center in San Jose on Saturday in the final preseason game for each team.
Kevin Labanc had a goal and an assist, and Jonathan Dalen, William Eklund and Brent Burns scored for San Jose, which will play its regular-season opener against the Winnipeg Jets at home Saturday. Erik Karlsson had two assists.
Robin Lehner made 30 saves for Vegas, which will host the Seattle Kraken on Tuesday in its opener.

Sabres 3, Red Wings 1: Zemgus Girgensons scored the go-ahead goal shorthanded for the Buffalo Sabres in a 3-1 win against the Detroit Red Wings in the preseason finale for each team at KeyBank Center in Buffalo on Saturday.
Girgensons scored at 19:17 of the second period after a giveaway by Red Wings goalie Alex Nedeljkovic for a 2-1 lead.
JJ Peterka and Vinnie Hinostroza scored, and Craig Anderson made 18 saves for the Sabres, who open the regular season against the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday.
Sam Gagner scored, and Nedeljkovic made 35 saves for the Red Wings, who begin the regular season against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday.

Peterka, Girgensons score in win over Red Wings

Predators 4, Hurricanes 3:Juuse Saros made 23 saves for the Nashville Predators in a 4-3 win against the Carolina Hurricanes in the preseason finale for each team at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville on Saturday.
Roman Josi, Yakov Trenin and Filip Forsberg scored second-period goals for the Predators, who open the regular season against the Seattle Kraken on Thursday.
David Rittich (11 saves) replaced Saros to start the third period.
Jordan Martinook, Ethan Bear and Stefan Noesen scored, and Frederik Andersen made 13 saves for the Hurricanes, who begin the season against the New York Islanders on Thursday.
