OTTUMWA, Iowa —
Southern Iowa Mental Health Clinic is outrunning the stigma of mental health disorders. For its 3rd year in a row, they hosted their annual 5K run. The run took place on Saturday.

The clinic is on a mission to remove the stigma behind mental health disorders. An important part of being mentally healthy is being physically active.
A 5K not only brings awareness, but it gets people to go outside and move. Anyone in the community could participate in this event.
There was music, food, and refreshments available for everyone at the event.
Mental health therapist Allison Brown believes mental health should be just as important as physical health.
“This came about because we value mental health and want to decrease the stigma that mental health carries when it comes to asking for help," said Brown. "Mental health is just as important as physical health and if we don’t take care of it just as our physical health it’ll decline.”
Southern Iowa Mental Health Clinic will continue to host the 5K run next year.
