If you’ve already watched Season 2 of the Emmy-award winning Apply TV+ dramedy series Ted Lasso and have been invested in the characters, you probably noticed that Nate, who is portrayed by actor Nick Mohammed, suddenly changed his hair color to grey.

Viewers have been wondering why this was the case and finally we have the answers as to why, thanks to a Twitter post by Mohammed himself, which he warns, may contain spoilers. He suggests maybe not reading the below until you’ve watched the season finale.

In the social media post, Mohammed also thanks Joe Kelly, who apparently cowrote the episode with star Jason Sudeikis.

According to Mohammed, the hair color change was purposeful. “I have flecks of grey that were painted out in season 1 and were painted more and more grey as season 2 progressed,” he said, adding that it was a wig at the very end.

He thanked stylists Nicky Austin and Alexis Dolman for “making this happen!”

The grey hair is supposedly a symbol of Nate’s “downfall” and feelings of abandonment and how these feelings have stressed and aged him. He is also self conscious about how he laces into the players at times and when he called Rebecca a “shrew” for potentially firing him in Season 1, Mohammed says that is when we get “a first glimpse into Nate’s nasty side.”

Mohammed concludes his post by thanking the show’s “phenomenal” writing team and thanks fans for sticking with the show and for all the support he’s received.
