Captain Burnham and the Star Trek: Discovery crew are going where no one has gone before in a new Season 4 trailer released Saturday in conjunction with the show’s New York Comic Con panel.
In the official clip for the new season (which premieres Thursday, Nov. 18 on Paramount+), the crew “seeks to understand a threat like none our galaxy has faced before, as a new anomaly threatens the existence of everything around it. With billions of lives at stake, the crew ignores warnings and pushes full-throttle, as they confront the unknown and work together to ensure a hopeful future for all,” reads the official description.
In the trailer, the anomaly looks to be Season 4’s Big Bad, with the Discovery weathering heavy damage from an asteroid field caused by it, and the newly reformed Federation assembles to figure out a solution. A Federation leader sniffs that she doesn’t care for Burnham’s reckless leadership style — “Your acts of bravery are huge swings of the pendulum, and there is a very fine line between a pendulum and a wrecking ball” — but Burnham ignores that and takes her ship and her crew directly into the anomaly in a bid to save life as we know it, with lots of explosions, phaser blasts and sword fights (!) along the way.
—
The Season 3 finale saw Burnham lead the Discovery crew in a fierce fight to retake the ship from the evil Osyraa and save the Federation — and she was ultimately rewarded by being named the Discovery’s new captain. While Saru left the Discovery to return to his home planet of Kaminar, co-showrunner Michelle Paradise told TVLine that “he’s definitely back in action for Season 4.”

Trailer looks great. Can’t wait.
What? Burnham disobeying orders and going rogue? That’s new…..
Isn’t that every Star Trek Captain?
LOL
Cue aggressive whispering in 3…2…
Honestly I just can’t get my head around this show. It looks gorgeous, but Burnham is the absolute worst.
And like Joe said – Burnham disobeying orders and going rogue? That’s new.
That Ferengi redesign is bizarre too though not as jarring as the way they messed up the klingons.
Burnham is the absolute best! I Love seeing her badazz go rogue, male characters do it all the time but are labeled saviors and heroes.
Brody, You said it much better than I could have. Totally agree. Why the whispering school of acting became a thing is beyond me.
One day, our beloved Star Trek will escape the realm of Bad Reboot/Klutzman, keep the faith, stalwart fans! It’s been sixteen years since we’ve seen a real Star Trek, one day it will be ours again.
Sure, Jan…
if cbs/paramount can find a way to do it without the $ going to bad robot/kurtzman they will do it, without hesitation or doubt.
i think it will be within 5 years.
was a hail mary to revitalise trek (its arguable as to the success/reach of the rebooted movies besides money made)
personally, discovery has its moments but not enough for me to race to watch it, 4 years to make her captain when the whole show is all about her with everyone else supporting that single character! was like they were desperate not to have her as captain.
but i am beyond eager to see strange new worlds.
hopefully the whispering will stop!
the current shows are better than most of Enterprise and Voyager were.
im not so sure.
discovery’s bad episodes per season have way outpaced any other trek imho.
plus i just dont like the crew as much as others, which is surprising as individually, i rate all the casts acting skills.
i really thought season 3 started with a fantastic episode then just didnt quite match that through the season.
Notice how few men appear in the trailer.
An all chick Trek vibe.
*gasp*…. Look away before you get estrogen poisoning… Us menfolk are still part of the show boss… Don’t worry
One must hope.
How sad for you and your tiny, tiny dingle.
I’m not sure what your point is. Is it that Star Trek with mostly men is not a problem, but Star Trek with mostly women looks like “Star Trek: Themyscira” to you?
all men crew dull, all women crew dull.
a good mix of GOOD actors is required.
i dont give a flying **** who the captain is, what gender, colour, who they love.
i just want great writing and great acting.
oh and i want sisko ret-conned right back to he left, came to his senses and raced back to jake and kasidy immediately thankyou.
The trailer prominently features several men.. Saru, Culber, Booker and Vance are prominently featured in there
It’s been so long, I am glad the return date is set. I wish they’d start moving on that Michelle Yeoh spinoff.
Same! I consoled myself when she left that we’d have her in the spinoff, but now it seems to be in limbo.
In fairness, she’s been pretty busy with movies, which pay considerably better.
Burnham goes rogue? THAT’S never happened before. 🙄
Yea Kirk would never go rogue…. oh wait….
One thing I can confidently predict: there will not be nearly enough Tig Notaro.
The trailer’s a little vague. Does this season have something to do with an anomaly?
This looks great and I can’t wait. And I’m shaking my head at the people who are STILL upset about this show.
Just don’t watch. Go back and watch the reruns of your faves. Check out the new stuff that’s coming. Or wait 20 years for the next batch of Trek shows that will probably mirror that time’s social reality and get you mad all over again. Whatever happens, you’re gonna be OK.
