Bengals place Xavier Su’a-Filo on Injured Reserve, activate Ricardo Allen

An I.R. swap before Week 5 begins.

The Cincinnati Bengals today have placed offensive guard Xavier Su’a-Filo on the Reserve/Injured list. In a corresponding move, they’ve activated safety Ricardo Allen from I.R.

Su’a-Filo was the Bengals’ starting right guard for the first two weeks of the season before suffering a knee injury in Week 2. He has been recovering ever since, and this gives him a few more weeks to continue that process while not counting against the roster. The team expects him to come off of I.R. sometime after three weeks.

Rookie Jackson Carman took Su’a-Filo’s spot in Week 3 and will continue to start in his place until further notice. If all goes to plan, the second-round pick from this year’s NFL Draft will stay in the starting lineup even after Su’a-Filo returns healthy.

Allen spent his three weeks on I.R. with a hand injury he suffered in Week 1 when he played 21 snaps as the team’s third safety. He was officially cleared for practice earlier this week, which started his 21-day countdown to be activated towards the roster.
