As of Saturday, October 9th the number of people murdered in the city of Balitmore this year stands at 263 and at last check, 558 others have been shot and survived.
This leaves many wondering what can be done to curb the violence in the Charm City?
Maryland State Delegate, Republican Kathy Szeliga said “It’s obvious a lot of these crimes are perpetrated by repeat violent offenders. So we need to focus on those people.”
Delegate Szeliga said the Covid Pandemic did slow the court system and incarcerations.
Szeliga also said the legislature needs to take a serious look at penalties.
“First of all the prosecutor Marilyn Mosby is clearly not focused on prosecuting criminals,” said Delegate Szeliga who added sometimes Judges are also to blame because she said “they’re soft on them.”
She also said taking a closer look at the Department of Parole and Probation is important moving forward.
