A Mountain Home man appeared in Baxter County Circuit Court Monday and pled guilty to charges in two cases.

Forty-one-year-old James Hicks III’s first charges stemmed from a traffic stop on July 12 last year.

According to the probable cause affidavit, an Arkansas State Police trooper stopped a vehicle for having a fictitious license plate.

At first, the driver was reported to have said he was “Jamie Hisk.” The name showed to be a “common alias” for Hicks.

Drugs and drug paraphernalia were found in the vehicle, and that led to felony charges being brought against Hicks.

In the more recent case, Hicks was accused of stealing a “Monster Bow” from a residence along State Highway 178 West in Lakeview.

The owner of the bow began “asking around” about his property and was told Hicks had sold it to a woman in Midway.

The woman was contacted and confirmed she had purchased the bow from Hicks for $600, not knowing it was stolen.

She initially said she would return it for $300, but later called the owner and said she “just wanted to give it back since it was stolen from him.”

The woman said she had asked Hicks if the bow was stolen, and he had denied it was, telling her that he had “gotten it from some rich guy a long time ago.”

The owner identified the bow as his property, and that was verified by serial numbers.

Hicks is alleged to have known the brother of the bow owner and had been to the residence in Lakeview from which it was taken.

After pleading guilty to charges in the two cases open on him, Hicks was sentenced to five years probation. He was also required to pay $600 to the woman who purchased the stolen bow from him.
