Bronx, N.Y. – (October 8, 2021) – The 17
th-ranked Fordham water polo team got back to work in league action on Friday night, defeating Mt. St. Mary's by a score of 19-10 at the Messmore Aquatic Center.
With the win, Fordham improved to 15-4 on the year, 4-0 in the MAWPC, while Mt. St. Mary's fell to 5-9 on the year, 1-2 in the league.
The Rams got out of the gate quickly, scoring the first four goals of the game with two by
Christos Loupakis and two by
George Papanikolaou.
After Fordham finished up 5-2 at the end of the first quarter, the Rams put the hammer down in the second, netting six markers to just one by The Mount for an 11-3 edge at halftime and never looked back.
For the Rams, Papanikolaou led all scorers with five goals to go with two assists and two steals, while Loupakis had four goals and an assist.
Hans Zdolsek also added three goals with Jacopo Parella having two goals, three assists, and four steals. The remaining goals were scored by
Victor Schultz (2),
Dimitris Koukias,
Jason Hiremath, and
Mark Katsev.
In net, the Rams saw all three goalkeepers get playing time.
Bailey O'Mara played the first two quarters with six saves, while
Thomas Lercari played the third quarter and most of the fourth, making five saves to go with an assist.
Aldo Ordoñez closed out the final minutes with one save and an assist.
The Rams are right back in the pool on Saturday, October 9
th at 11:00 AM for a league match against George Washington.
