Lewis Hamilton and other Formula 1 stars found the grip levels in Istanbul Park ‘much more enjoyable' as compared to last year's Turkish Grand Prix after Friday's practice sessions.

With the return of the Turkish GP in 2020, drivers all over the grid complained about the track having no grip whatsoever — it was compared to “driving on ice” due to oil appearing on track which resulted in cars sliding all across the circuit.

Lewis Hamilton gave high praise to the increased grip this weekend after shattering track records in FP1 and FP2.

“So I didn't really know what to expect when I went out there today. But jeez, so much more grip than we've ever had before!”

Ferrari's Carlos Sainz gave similar praises to the organizers of the track, delving into the level of improvement from last year.

“The grip level is probably one of the highest of the season now, so compared with the lowest ever, we’ve now gone to one of the highest ever, so good job from the people that were involved in the work done on the track.

However, McLaren's Daniel Ricciardo says that the team expected to have the increased levels of grip, but initially still took him by surprise.

“That was maybe a bit of a surprise; I thought the soft would have been miles quicker – I don’t think that was necessarily the case – maybe that.

Fans are hopeful for another exhilarating Formula 1 Turkish GP ahead. The track was water-blasted ahead of the Grand Prix weekend, while F1 tire supplier, Pirelli, sought to solve the grip issues by using softer tire combinations, switching from a C1, C2, and C3 combination last year, to a C2, C3, and C4 combination this year.
