There is little doubt that LeBron James has become one of the most popular athletes on the planet. The Los Angeles Lakers superstar has a global reach that extends far and wide and his recent milestone on social media is a clear testament to this fact.

LeBron has just eclipsed 100 million followers on Instagram. This is a pretty epic achievement, especially if you put it in the context of how many followers the NBA, the NFL, and the MLB has — combined (h/t Boardroom on Twitter):

Yes, you read that right. LeBron James has more Instagram followers than the three major US sports combined. This speaks volumes of just how much of a global phenomenon the Lakers star is at the moment.

What does this all mean, you might ask? Well, this simply translates to millions and millions of dollars in revenues for LeBron James. According to a report, the four-time NBA champ is earning up to $474,000 per Instagram post. Again, you read that right. No typo here. You also have to note that this report was published several months ago when the Lakers All-Star was just at 87 million followers.

For what it's worth, however, LeBron's followers (and income) actually pales in comparison to the top dog on the Instagram rich list. That honor belongs to Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, who has amassed 353 million followers. Ronaldo's projected earnings per post is a whopping $1.6 million. Sorry, ‘Bron.
