Late Los Angeles City Councilmember Tom LaBonge will be honored on Saturday with a citywide day of service.

LaBonge – known to constituents as “Mr. LA.” – died in January. As councilmember, he represented the city’s fourth district.

Simultaneous clean-up events will take place at Griffith Park Fern Dell Trail, Watts Towers, Victory Outreach Church, Algin Sutton Park, and Silver Lake Meadow.

“We want people to roll up their sleeves at any of the locations because that’s what Tom did,” said Capri Maddox, executive director of the LA Civil Rights Department which is co-hosting the event. “He was always rolling up his sleeves to make a difference and to make Los Angeles more beautiful.”

“[Tom] was the consummate public servant who devoted his life to Los Angeles,” L.A. City Attorney Mike Feuer said about his longtime friend. “Tom was a marvelous human being. He really cared in his gut and he showed it.”

The event will be from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
