After losing two different opponents before a planned October 2nd return, Chris Eubank Jr has instead joined BOXXER’s October 16th Fight Night in Newcastle, where he’ll take on once-beaten German Wanik Awdijan.

Eubank (30-2, 22 KO) ended a 1.5-year layoff in May by cruising past Marcus Morrison on the Parker-Chisora undercard. He was supposed to fight Sven Elbir on last Saturday’s Usyk-Joshua card, then Anatoli Muratov when Elbir withdrew, then ended up on the sidelines when Muratov also bowed out.

Awdijan (28-1, 11 KO) is about on the same level as those two, having quietly spent the last nine years racking up subpar wins on the European circuit. He’s unbeaten in nearly eight years and rides a 20-fight streak into this matchup, though he did need a split decision to get past 4-0 Iago Kiziria in July.

Eubank should throttle him without issue, potentially setting up a fight with the winner of Gennadiy Golovkin vs. Ryota Murata due to Eubank formerly holding the interim WBA title.

The card, headlined by Hughie Fury vs. Christian Hammer, will also see Savannah Marshall defend her middleweight title against Zambian standout Lolita Muzeya and Lewis Ritson look to get back on track against Hank Lundy.
