In just a few weeks Disney will be launching the brand new planning feature, Disney Genie, in the My Disney Experience app at Disney World!
We’ve been learning a ton of details about the new service including what you can get for free, what rides will be included in Disney Genie+ at an extra cost, and MORE. And, if you’re thinking about how you plan to budget for Disney World’s new FastPass+ replacement, we now know just how much the Individual Attraction Selections will cost!
Beginning October 19th, there will be TWO new ways to “skip the line” at attractions throughout all four parks. These new services, known as Disney Genie+ and Individual Attraction Selection, will replace the former FastPass+ service and will provide guests who purchase it with access to new Lightning Lanes (aka old FastPass lanes).
We’ve already brought you a look at all of the attractions that will be included in Disney Genie+ for the cost of $15 per person, per day, and now we’ve got a look at how much more you’ll need to pay if you want to skip the line at the MOST popular rides in the parks that are NOT included in Disney Genie+.
As a quick reminder, here are all of the attractions that will be available as Individual Attraction Selections:
- Seven Dwarfs Mine Train in Magic Kingdom
- Space Mountain in Magic Kingdom
- Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure in EPCOT
- Frozen Ever After in EPCOT
- Rise of the Resistance in Disney’s Hollywood Studios
- Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway in Disney’s Hollywood Studios
- Flight of Passage in Disney’s Animal Kingdom
- Expedition Everest in Disney’s Animal Kingdom
Each ride will cost a different amount, but Disney has announced that the maximum pricing for Individual Attraction Selections will be $15 per person, per ride. But, it’s important to keep in mind that this cost can (and likely will) change throughout the year.
Disney did break down the costs a bit further in an example, sharing that Expedition Everest will cost $7 per person, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train will cost $10-$12 per person, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure will cost $9-$11 per person, and Rise of the Resistance will cost $15 per person when the service initially rolls out.
These won’t be the permanent prices for the Individual Attraction Selections, however. Instead, the prices could increase (or potentially decrease), depending on the time of year that you’re visiting with prices rising during busier times of the year and lowering during the “off-season.”
Disney has yet to reveal a launch date and pricing for the service in Disneyland, but we’ll be keeping an eye out for updates. And, in the meantime, be sure to stay tuned to AllEars for more of the latest details on Disney Genie!

Neither option sits well with me — those who have the money get the perks … AGAIN. And then let’s look at who has the money… Disney was created for “families to play together,” and should not be a place where the more affluent are able to constantly jump ahead of other working families. Socioeconomics, and everything that comes with that, are at play every day in our societies around the world. Why is Disney perpetuating that paradigm when it is already a financial privilege to be able to go? Your ticket should be your ticket to the Disney experience … period. The old way of the fast pass kiosks was at least a fairer way to go as tickets were dispersed throughout the day, everyone had to be in the park to get them and you could only hold two at any given time — it was a much fairer, more transparent and better managed process. I see the Genie+ and per person ride fees a serious departure from founder intent.

Remember what Roy Disney said when WDW opened, “May Walt Disney World bring joy and inspiration and new knowledge to all who come to this happy place… a Magic Kingdom where the young at heart of all ages can laugh and play and learn—together.” Remember this because the current corporate management has forgotten, or never knew.
Our family will be visiting DW soon, the first time since 2012. I am terribly disappointed with the gouging that Disney is doing at this time. I could travel to some really nice destinations for the cost of this trip. So now Disney wants me to pay extra for Genie +, just to skip a ride line. And to pay more on top of that to skip a few more lines, after I have already paid for ticket X 4.
I have always stayed on property because of perks like Fastpass, Extra Magic Hours, etc. Now I find out that unless I reserve a room at a Deluxe resort, I cannot have the extra magic hours. I get a mere 30 minutes before opening. I would love to stay at a Deluxe resort, but it does not make sense when I only sleep in the resort room. All of our time is in the parks. And I get it, for those paying top $, then there should be extra amenities for them. But some of the changes I have seen are a punch in the gut to those families who visit on a budget.
If Disney continues this path of gouging its customers, then there will not be another trip to DW for our family. For this $$$$, I see many other options for us.
I find the pricing to be ridiculously outrageous!! Ticket prices are extremely high. Disney is pricing things so that many families will never be able to afford a Disney vacation. Now they want people to pay for what once a free fast pass. Disney is taking away the dreams that so many families have of one day visiting with the prices of tickets and accommodations forever increasing. I have been to Disney more times than I can remember, but can no longer afford a multi-day ticket any longer, just to expensive for a family of five!

I will say my first visit in 1990 I paid $85 for a 4 day park ticket!! Now that was a trip magical at least I could afford to take my family. Now, we will have to settle for a 1 day 1 park ticket.
I might be willing to pay for Genie+ but I hope everyone boycotts paying $9-$15 per person per ride for popular rides. It will be interesting to actually see how many rides will actually have Lighting Lanes for Genie+ and how many will require the per ride add on. It may well turn out that the Genie+ doesn’t really buy that many ride options. If Space and Everest are premium pay rides, then I don’t see Genie+ providing much bang for the buck. I won’t be surprised to see verbal hostility from some guests towards guests who pay the per ride fees while they are in line. The tensions between the “haves” and “have nots” is much like the tension between political parties right now. Everyone has become very vocal about their views and Disney may well find themselves policing disgruntled guests more than ever before. From first impressions of these prices, I’m thinking that parties of 8 should look into the VIP escort deal where you basically can be escorted thru each lighting lane.
Just one more in a growing list of Disney “family friendly” fees. We stopped going as often when Disney decided to charge for parking – especially when they charge MORE for parking at a Deluxe resort than a lower rated one! Why? Are the spaces cushioned at the GF? Air conditioned? Covered? Is there an attendant standing by to shoo away the birds? THIS is just one more CS way for Disney to recover QUICKLY what they lost during the COVID shutdown and to pass that on to the only people stupid enough to pay it. No thanks, Disney. I can put my money in a shredder here and not travel to FloriDUH to do it.

All of this makes me sad…I feel like the magic is now truly gone. The beginning of the end was when they started charging for parking at the resorts. But this is just ridiculous. I could maybe see it if ALL rides were included in Genie+ but to have to pay per person per ride extra for “fast pass” access to the biggest rides is a blatant money grab and is really disappointed.
The best thing that could happen is that NO ONE buys either service and forces Disney to rethink/revamp the whole program. But that will never happen because there are always those willing/able to shell out more.
we have been going to disney for around 24 years straight. so we have paid alot of money to go to disney and now we are DVC members and Annual passholders too. which both of those are expensive as well, and now disney wants to add more cost onto your daily pricing. well we will not be paying anymore per person. every extra thing is now a fee on top of what you pay per day to get into the parks. very disappointed in disney that they feel this is still a family vacation for all families to be able to attend. We will still go but on our terms not disney. such a shame.
To 98% of disney fans out there…you are confusing family friendly with budget friendly. Those two have nothing to do with each other. Disney is very family friendly and very budget unfriendly while a death metal show at the local music club is very family unfriendly and budget friendly. I don’t think disney is at all surprised by the backlash. Most of disney Fandom is like the most high maintenance ex you had that could never be pleased. Disney has quit listening to the Fandom, and I say rightfully so. Disney has more people wanting in at current pricing than space permits. You raise prices through various means to drive some away. Back to the music analogy…you know that cool band who you saw for $10 before they made it and now their shows cost $200 and they sell out stadiums? Be glad for their success. I’m glad disney made it big time too. I have been priced out of football games. I love them and I want to go, but pricing is above what I’m willing to pay. That’s life and I allocate those funds towards other pursuits. Football is still selling out stadiums with waiting lists so how can I throw a tantrum about it!?

I agree. I have been able to vacation at WDW just about every year since 84. Which I am thankful for. Many changes have happen since then. Some good and some not so.
The sports and music venues you referenced, are true fir myself as well. I no longer go to baseball games. And have replaced that with attending one football game a year. We try to do what makes sense for us to do, when it comes to our vacation planning.
Will I pay for some of the new payment plans. At some parks, I believe I will. Others I will not. And not every day of our vacation. If it makes sense at that time, I will.

The sad thing is, new reasons keep coming.
Very, very surprised (naive?) to see rides as old as Expedition Everest and Space Mountain on this list. Unless crowd flows change due to this new experiment/money grab I expect experienced travelers will just visit these attractions early in the day. On our one and only trip to Disneyland in 2018 we did find Maxpass to be very useful but physical Fastpasses were still available so not sure how many other people we were “competing” against. It also had the advantage of being able to book outside of the park (and both parks) once you had entered either park that day.
Yeah I used to go to Disneyworld annually but all the new nickel and diming customers for everything weirdness and astronomical Disney hotel prices mean I’m going to Universal
if I was coming to Disney World for the one and only trip ever, I probably would consider it, otherwise I can stand in line, at least till I am unable to walk any more………
So , Disney thinks a family of 4 will be OK with the additional 60.00 cost ( on top of the already steep ticket prices ) to get a fast pass to just one ride ( The Resistance ). I think Disney will be surprised by the negative backlash . A lot of attention has been paid to Walt’s dream the last few months . I think he would be appalled . Supposed to be FAMILY FRIENDLY vacations ?????? NOT COOL!!!!!!!
Do away with ALL fast passes, fast lanes, pay as you go etc etc. Go back to the good old days where people waited in line. Also cap the number of visitors to a park to keep crowds down. Dump the hopper pass to better control overcrowding. During our last 5 visits we never used a fast pass and never waited more than 20 minutes fo a ride. Only exception is the kiddie rides at MK, but we pass those up all the time.
No way will we be paying a price “per person, per ride”!!! We pay enough for our resorts, food in the parks, and regular admission, and now we pay for a ride too????? Not us!! We have a trip planned for early December, and it will most likely be our last. We are retired and just cannot afford the pleasure of the parks any more. So sorry to see us say that, as we are extreme Disney fans. We can take a 10 day cruise (not Disney) for what it is costing us for our trip in December. So sad about this.
In 1971 general admission at Disney cost $3.50 for adults and $1.00 for kids. In today’s dollars that is $23.65 for adults and $6.75 for kids. Very few rides were included with that cost, but to get an 11 ride ticket with admission (including 4 e-ticket rides) the cost was $6.75 for adults and $5.75 for kids. Today that is $38.85 for adults and $32.10 for kids. To add on another e-ticket ride was 90 cents for adults and 80 cents for kids. That is about $6.10 for adults and $5.40 for kids in today’s dollars. The last time I went to the park with my family it was moderately busy. Riding 11 rides in a day would have been a pretty good day for us. The price now for a Magic Kingdom ticket is $109-159 depending on the time of year and only $5 less for kids. If I want to get Genie+ to get what I was getting with the FastPass, it will add on another $15 per person. If I want to skip the line for Space Mountain it will cost another $10 or more per person. I am now looking at about $175 per person for one day. I have 4 kids mostly over kids age now so I am looking at over $1000 per day Wow!
Think about this for a second. Park admission ticket prices have not been lowered. So….say you pay $100 per person per park per day. Add to that $15 to have the ‘privilege’ of being able to ride the rides in each park per person per day. Then add , on average, $20 for the two pay per ride attractions per park per day. And low and behold your $100 park ticket that included everything is now $125. A 25% increase. And wait for it….every year the prices will go up on top of that. So each day for a family of 4 just went up $100. How does Disney look it’s customers in the eye?
This is ridiculous they are not family friendly anymore.
We stopped going to the parks as we couldn’t afford it anymore.
And looking at flights from the uk we won’t be returning any time soon .
After spending $109 per ticket is already atrocious, it will cost a family of 4 (all over the age of 9) an extra $60 for one extra ride and about $108 if they schedule 2 rides. $548 for a day at one park. Park Hopping and Genie+ will add even more. This will price out most people. Walt wanted his parks to be a magical world for all people but he didn’t want them bankrupted to have a Disney vacation.
Dear Disney…please charge more and make more attractions pay per ride. Make it $33 per ride. Mine train, all three mountains, tron, and meet mickey for $200 addition to the ticket cost will make my and my family’s day at magic kingdom 10 times more enjoyable for only three times the price. What a deal! Please get there sooner rather than later. 98% of people are going to complain whether its $5, $15, or $33 extra, so just rip the bandage off now!
I’ve enjoyed fairly regular Disney vacations over the years, even though it’s one of the more expensive vacations you can take. Over that time there’s been a steady stream of greed, from nerfing meal plan and snack options to electronically locking down soda dispensers. Now, there’s no fast pass or magical express. I don’t see myself going back any time soon unless something changes, but as long as the parks continue to remain full they could care less. Stop rewarding greed.
ENOUGH! STOP! What will be next? Pay a price to use a restroom?

This to me is atrocious. I myself will not pay for fast passes. Since Disney has changed hands and with COVID these prices make me cringe. Not the customers fault that the movies are not doing well because of COVID. Not our fault they keep building and building. Yes progress is great but at what cost. Soon people will not be able to go anymore.
I hope this return to “E tickets” and Lightening Lanes fails miserably. Fast passes worked well. I hope Disney will return to that system.
