EastEnders spoilers follow.

Dotty Cotton's mum Sandy Gibson has disappeared from the Square once again after taking advantage of her daughter in EastEnders.

Sandy returned to Walford after an 11-year absence earlier this week to ruin her daughter's VIP night at the club — with new actress Martha Cope (Family Affairs) taking on the character in a recasting.

The mother and daughter's reunion has been rocky, since Dotty discovered her mum had relapsed on drugs and Sandy subsequently overdosed in Albert Square.

Friday's (October 8) episode opened with nurse Sonia Fowler trying to bring Sandy back around in the wake of her heroin overdose.

While Dotty was gravely concerned, she also realised Sandy had stolen Sonia' phone and she had to jump in to make sure her mum didn't get caught.

Dotty turned to her uncle Tom 'Rocky' Cotton to help her figure out how to get Sandy clean because she worried her mum would die if not.

Just as Dotty had done a few weeks ago when he was protective of Sonia, Rocky warned Dotty that her priority should be continuing their plan to swindle Sonia.

"If you want to keep [this job], get her out of here," Rocky demanded.

Trouble continued at the Fowler house when Dotty returned because Whitney's engagement ring had suddenly disappeared.

Whitney naturally blamed Sandy for stealing the ring, but unbeknownst to her, it was actually Liam Butcher who'd snatched it as he continued to hide his true motives for returning to Walford.

The whole drama of the past 24 hours offered a chance for Sandy to break down her walls towards Dotty after their unpleasantness from the week thus far.

Dotty promised to find a way to get enough cash to take Sandy to a detox away from the city. She resorted to taking money from the club's safe to use for the trip.

"Why? After the life I've given you, why bother?" a tearful Sandy asked, with Dotty responding: "Because you're my mum."

Yet, Sandy ultimately snatched the cash and disappeared from Walford, leaving with the club's cash and horrifying her daughter over whether she'd be okay.

Will this be the end of Sandy, or will she return to cause more trouble?

EastEnders airs on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays on BBC One.
