Lou_BC, funny how you ignore Taxis are not available everywhere, taxis are more expensive everywhere, taxis don't have an app that tracks when you get a ride, how far, or even give you option on your specific ride, and how taxis don't have a pre-stored payment method so all you need is a cell phone, not cash or carry credit card. But hey, you are sadly in pocket of organized labor in British Colombia in opposition to well being of ordinary citizen, so you give me hogwash of same minimal requirements set by unions. @pmirp1 Taxi drivers are non-union in BC. Oh and every taxi company in my town is owned by IndoCanadians. Most of the taxi companies in Vancouver are the same. They aren't Uber drivers because there's no money to be made by driving for Uber. Are you the weekend shift covering Slavuto?

@slavuta They were trying to get to Svetogorsk from Vyborg, not all the way to Finland. They couldn't get past the FSB border security zone checkpoint just past the Vuokski River. Instead of that car just sitting somewhere not earning anything you are earning money. Not only that, Uber gives you flexibility to do it on your own schedule. You can do it after your full time work. You can do it during peak hours. You can do it after you pick your kid from school. You can do it on weekend. Uber and Lyft have provided freedom from tyranny of Taxis and organized labor to customers and drivers. This is in addition to an app that lets customers load payment type before ride, availability of drivers everywhere, speed of pick by Uber. Choosing your own ride.

Or you come across as one. I take the fact that you can not refute my points about superiority of Uber and Lyft to Taxis as admission to you don't know anything about them, and therefore, are just parroting what Taxis and unions say to you. A bit of independent thinking helps. Here is help for you, instead of going to liberal sites or far right sites, get a subscription to WSJ. It will educate you about facts of business. You will enjoy and can then have intelligent conversations about Uber and Lyft without parroting same driver license requirements.

@pmirp1 Uber and Lyft are based on the two most common human fallacies: stupidity and greed. Stupidity because someone is working a gig job with no, repeat no benefits. They're stupid enough to think that picking up a ride or two is worth the extra wear and tear on their car. The greed kicks in because they're paid "mad cash" for driving drunks home after their shift as a cook. Get in an accident while driving a fare? That immediately gets into a lawyer fight. I doubt you're driver who's barely scraping by in the gig economy wins that one. I only use Uber Black.

@slavuta el scotto, I normally take normal Uber. I had to Google Uber black to understand what it is. It would be nice if Uber and Lyft provide health insurance but do Taxi companies? In Atlanta yellow cab drivers mostly seem hardly able to speak English and their cars are dirty and old. I detested it. Uber is so many times superior if you look at rating of driver before you pick your ride. I take Uber from our beach home many nights when we go to downtown Savannah riverfront. To bars and restaurants. And back. Savannah is near military bases (Hunter Air Force base). Young military men and women complement their military paycheck with pay from Uber. In Atlanta I take Uber to dealers amd on occasions Doctors. Recently I got into a conversation with a young black man who was my driver. He told me he left Amazon driving because so many stops for delivery and he had to get out of vehicle so many times. Instead he does Uber. The pay can be ok if they are busy and not waiting for rides. On other occasions they tell me Uber helped them. With discounts on getting cars. I recall they said Uber had deals with rental companies to get them leased slightly used vehicles. And helped with their car insurance. Those are just a few use cases. I have many more. For me as a customer it has been a God send. I detest Taxis. Going to Vancouver at tail end of our Alaska cruise showed all the shortcomings of Taxis, and people I interacted with all said they want Uber to be available. Health care in general in America is an issue. We are moving towards a Medicare for all day. It is only a matter of time. Is there an alternative to Uber that provides same level service and is employee concerned? I want fast, available everywhere, with app, and stored prepaid method of payment. Until that day I’ll use Uner as do so many because
