Cleveland Guardians’ Jose Ramirez AL finalist for Hank Aaron Award

Cleveland third baseman Jose Ramirez had another strong offensive performance in 2021 and is a Hank Aaron Award finalist.

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Jose Ramirez has been named an American League finalist for the Hank Aaron Award for the second straight season.

Ramirez, Aaron Judge, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Salvador Perez, Shohei Ohtani, Cedric Mullins and Matt Olson are the finalists in the AL. The NL finalists are Nick Castellanos, Brandon Crawford, Freddie Freeman, Paul Goldschmidt, Bryce Harper, Juan Soto and Fernando Tatis.

The three-time All-Star third baseman led the Indians this season with 36 homers, 103 RBI, 111 runs, 72 walks and 27 stolen bases. He led the team in on-base percentage at .355 and slugging percentage at .538. He finished second on the team with five triples.

Ramirez could be a top-five finisher in the MVP voting for the fourth time in the last five years. He finished second last season.

The Hank Aaron Award goes to the top offensive performer in each league. The award was introduced in 1999 and is named for Aaron, who broke Babe Ruth’s home run record and still ranks second all-time with 755 homers behind Barry Bonds. The 25-time All-Star is baseball’s all-time leader with 2,297 RBI and 6,856 total bases.

Mike Trout and Freeman won the award in 2020. The only Indians player to win the award was Manny Ramirez in 1999.

A panel of Hall of Famers will vote on the award. Fans can also vote for the award on mlb.com. Here is the link: https://www.mlb.com/hank-aaron-award#vote. Fan voting ends on Oct. 15, just before midnight.
