Cincinnati to unveil mural in honor of Reds legend Joe Morgan
A new mural will honor baseball legend Joe Morgan. The Hall of Fame second baseman will be enshrined at the P&G MLB Cincinnati Reds Youth Academy, located in Cincinnati's Roselawn neighborhood. The Reds Youth Academy, which is located on Joe Morgan Way, would not have been built without Morgan's influence and passion for understanding the importance of developing the next generation of baseball and softball student-athletes from urban neighborhoods.Above video: A look back at Joe Morgan's career with Cincinnati RedsArtist Brent Billingsley designed the mural in collaboration with the Reds. Billingsley has worked on many murals in Cincinnati including the Black Lives Matter street mural in front of Cincinnati's City Hall and two recent murals in Avondale. The mural will be unveiled to the public Saturday at 10:30 a.m., just days before the one-year anniversary of Morgan's death on Oct. 9. Former Reds greats, Reds President and COO Phil Castellini, friends, family and others will be on hand for the ceremony. Morgan was widely considered one of the greatest second basemen to ever play the game. He was a two-time NL Most Valuable Player, a 10-time All-Star and won five Gold Gloves. A 5-foot-7 dynamo known for flapping his left elbow at the plate, Little Joe could hit a home run, steal a base and disrupt any game with his daring. Most of all, he completed Cincinnati’s two-time World Series championship team, driving a club featuring the likes of Pete Rose, Johnny Bench and Tony Perez to back-to-back titles.
