Matthew McConaughey is not all right with the Texas abortion ban.

How does Matthew McConaughey feel about the Texas abortion law?

McConaughey, an Academy Award-winning actor, recently talked about his run for Texas governor on the “Sway” podcast, hosted by Kara Swisher.

McConaughey said he does not support the strict abortion ban in Texas.
“I’ve got a problem with that,” McConaughey said.
He added that the ban was a “juvenile” attempt to go against the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade ruling.

What is the Texas abortion ban?

The Texas abortion law bans abortions when a heartbeat can be detected, which is at about six weeks, as I wrote for the Deseret News. In some cases, this might be before women know that they are pregnant.

McConaughey said the six-week time limit “does not really make that an honest consideration.”

According to the law, private citizens can collect $10,000 in damages if they can bring forth a successful lawsuit against abortion providers who violate the new law, per The Associated Press.

This new Texas abortion law has gone into effect

Last month, the Supreme Court refused to block the Texas law, according to Deseret News. So the Department of Justice sued the state of Texas. The Department of Justice then filed an emergency motion that asked for a restraining order.

Earlier this week, a U.S. judge temporarily blocked the near-total abortion ban in Texas. Texas has filed an appeal and will likely seek out an emergency stay through the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals, per The Texas Tribune.
