Rezoning Of Planned Restaurant Location Approved

city-comm-oct-7

Paris, Tenn.–Following a public hearing and second reading Thursday evening, the Paris City Commission approved a request to rezone property at 1008 E. Wood St. Owner Randy Crowder has said he plans to open a restaurant at that location.

The parcel of land has been residential and the property in question contains a residence, but Crowder has plans to convert it to a restaurant. Zoning of the parcel divided, with one half being zoned P-B and the other half zoned R-2M. After the public hearing and second reading, commissioners approved making the entire parcel P-B, or ‘Planned Business’.

Residents who live nearby were at the meeting to voice concerns about congestion and noise at the location. Crowder said parking would not be a problem since he also has bought the property just east of the parcel which would be used for parking. He also said he did not feel noise would be a problem since the restaurant would close at 9 p.m.

The site plan for the property will be presented to the Paris Municipal Regional Planning Commission Thursday evening, Oct. 14.

In other business:

–City Manager Kim Foster told the commission the city has been approved for a $150,000 downtown improvement ‘facade’ grant from the State Department of Economic and Community Development.

The city has received facade grants before and they are used to improve the exteriors of small businesses downtown.

No match from the city is required, Foster said.

Foster said the city also has been again awarded another Back Alley Paris grant, this one in the amount of $3,500. Foster said the city has submitted a request to receive 40 percent of the grant monies now.

–Certification package and final construction drawings have been approved by TDOT for the Wilson and Patriot Streets sidewalk project. Final estimate is still under review and TDOT will begin the process of obligating funds for construction.

–Foster reported the city has finally received TDOT Ecology approval for the Rison Street bridge project. Paperwork was resubmitted for a third time and it was returned to the city on September 28, asking for additional edits, all of which had been in the document from the beginning, she said. As soon as the edits are completed, they will be resubmitted for a fourth time
