Grey's Anatomy Season 18 Episode 3 is perhaps the most highly-anticipated installment from the hit ABC medical drama this year. After all, this is the first time fans would see Kate Walsh's Addison Montgomery on the show after so many years.

Following Thursday night's episode, the network dropped an official trailer for Grey's Anatomy Season 18 Episode 3 titled Hotter than Hell.

Here's everything you need to know about Addison's return to Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital.

Addison Montgomery Means Business In Grey's Anatomy Season 18 Episode 3

In the 46-second trailer, some of Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital residents are waiting for their new mentor. To their surprise, the person that walks into the room is none other than Addison Montgomery.

The residents are surprised to see Addison there, and the looks on their faces suggest that they are both thrilled and nervous to work with her.

Addison also teased the residents that they were the ones dragging the hospital's name down. But this sounds like a chide to encourage them to work much harder.

In the next scene, Addison operates on a patient when Webber walks in and asks her to close the patient up immediately. There's some issue at the hospital, and if Addison doesn't close the patient up, they could get an infection.

Unfortunately, Addison refuses to follow Webber's orders. And instead, she asks Webber to find Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo).

Addison, Meredith Will Reunite In Grey's Anatomy Season 18 Episode 3

In the previous episode, Meredith decided to accept a job that would make her and Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone) the first two doctors who could potentially find a cure for Parkinson's.

However, Meredith said that she couldn't move to Minnesota. Instead, she would set up a satellite clinic at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital and visit Minnesota once a week.

Grey's Anatomy Season 18 Episode 2 ended with Meredith and Dr. Hamilton (Peter Gallagher) agreeing to officially work together.

In Grey's Anatomy Season 18 Episode 3, audiences can expect a reunion between Meredith and Addison. After all, Meredith is still working at Grey Sloan, contrary to the initial speculations that she will be leaving her job and moving to Minnesota.

The trailer also shows Addison instructing Webber to look for Meredith because the former knows that the latter is the only one that could help her on the operating table.

Will Addison Montgomery Be In Grey's Anatomy Season 18 Episode 4?

While it's still too early to tell whether Walsh's character will also be in Grey's Anatomy Season 18 Episode 4, this seems plausible.

After all, the title for this episode is With a Little Help From My Friends. A synopsis has not yet been released but didn't just Webber ask for Addison's help, and the latter asked for Meredith's help in return?

Weeks ago, Walsh did not only confirm her return to Grey's Anatomy Season 18, but she also hinted at the possibility of appearing in more than just one episode.

Kate Walsh Says Addison, Meredith's Reunion Will Have ‘Twists And Turns'

Addison left the hospital years ago without any bad blood towards Meredith. At first, the two doctors' relationship was complicated because Addison was still married to Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) when the latter started hooking up with Meredith.

In fact, the first time that Addison saw Meredith at the hospital, she told him point-blank that she knew about the affair.

But over the years, Addison and Meredith developed a close friendship with each other. And this bond will be highlighted in Grey's Anatomy Season 18 Episode 3, but not all the time.

While speaking with TV Insider, Walsh said that Addison and Meredith's relationship would have twists and turns.

Grey's Anatomy showrunner Krista Vernoff added that there's so much water under the bridge between Meredith and Addison, which includes a history that's reframed because of Derek's death.

Speaking of Derek's death, Addison didn't return for this important moment on the show. And this may be one of the things that she and Meredith would discuss in Grey's Anatomy Season 18 Episode 3.

"Though there's real respect between them, there are also new dynamics you've never seen before on the show," Vernoff said.

Walsh acknowledged that her character missed a lot of milestones. So, one possible storyline is for Meredith and Amelia to question why she never returned to grieve with them.

"The fact is, she hasn't been back for pretty poignant events in Grey's history, like Derek's funeral, Meredith's children and [former sister-in-law] Amelia [Shepherd's] child. You can't help but feel like the prodigal daughter is returning," Walsh said.

Kate Walsh's Return To Grey's Anatomy Season 18 Wasn't Exactly Planned

In 2017, Walsh was asked regarding the possibility of Addison returning to Grey's Anatomy. At the time, she told TV Line that she feels the writers were able to wrap everything up nicely for her character.

"I'm not saying if [series creator] Shonda [Rhimes] was like, ‘We're gonna do a very special episode of Grey's where…' But…we did it all. We had the spinoff, and we had all that. It was an amazing experience and journey," she said.

Vernoff recently confirmed that she only thought of inviting Walsh back to the show this year. And when she contacted her, Walsh immediately said yes.

The showrunner believes that Walsh agreed to reprise her role after seeing how some original cast members returned to Grey's Anatomy Season 17.

So, had it not been for these surprise returns, Walsh's Addison may not have been part of Grey's Anatomy Season 18.

When Will Grey's Anatomy Season 18 Episode 3 Air?

Grey's Anatomy Season 13 Episode 3 will air on Thursday, Oct. 14 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.

As of late, the official number of episodes of Grey's Anatomy Season 3 remains unknown. But fans are hoping to see more than 17 episodes, unlike the previous season.
