Black Widow Director Reveals Crucial Scene Kevin Feige Fought to Keep in MCU Flick

There is probably nothing about Black Widow that fans would like to change but it looks like the crew had a lot of other plans for the Marvel Cinematic Universe flick. Director Cate Shortland has revealed that there was a crucial scene that she was initially opposed to but Kevin Feige insisted on keeping in the movie.

In Black Widow, it was established early on that Natasha Romanoff's family had a strong bond when she was young. However, things changed when they were separated. Nevertheless, we got to see that family dynamic being re-established in a dinner scene where Nat, Yelena Belova, Alexei Shostakov, and Melina Vostokoff were reunited.

Interestingly, Shortland admitted to Empire that she and Scarlett Johansson felt that the MCU film didn't need it. However, Feige insisted that the scene should be included.

"He doesn't give you many directives, he's very free," Shortland said of Feige. She then added that he was very insistent on the dinner scene.

"But that was a scene he really felt needed to be in the film, and Scarlett and I kept fighting him on it, saying, ‘How will this ever work?' But it became a very alive thing. You've got this bunch of people shipwrecked together, who are still desperately trying to cling onto the roles that they had in Ohio, because that's all they know. That's all they have. And it's beautiful for me," Shortland continued.

It may not have felt very important for Shortland and Johansson at first but in the end, Feige was right and the dinner scene is one of the most memorable sequences in Black Widow.

Black Widow is now available for free on Disney+.
