Don Cheadle was recently interviewed by Ace Universe about Armor Wars, where he decided to get up and leave (jokingly) after a good minute of being asked about the Iron Man story that is currently in development to become a series on Disney+.

The actor felt that he can not give away information that he does not hear or know. In other words, the War Machine is being smart and not giving away any details that could jeopardize the show before it is released.

The full 40-minute interview is posted below.

Don is no stranger to voicing how he feels about certain situations. (Fun fact: Don Cheadle also starred in Kendrick Lamar’s music video for his song “DNA,” in which he plays the role of an interrogator.)

Angelique Roché of Ace Universe, who conducted the interview, stated that she felt she received a great deal of knowledge after speaking with the legendary actor. She took to Twitter to give kudos to Don Cheadle for being a great talent and a humble human being.

Angelique Roché tweeted:

“Me asking Don Cheadle about Armor Wars… a story in four parts. Frfr, it was a true joy chatting with this brilliantly talented & down-to-earth human. He gave us a mini masterclass today.”

Don is known in Marvel for his role as James Rhodes AKA War Machine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the Iron Man films (except the first Iron Man). In the Marvel Universe, James is known for being an officer in the United States Air Force and a liaison between Stark Industries and the military. Star Industries is where a strong friendship was formed between him and Tony Stark (Iron Man), played by Robert Downey Jr.

In an older interview conducted by the AV Club, Don went on record to say he only had a couple of hours to decide if we wanted to take over the role of War Machine, which was originally portrayed by Terrence Howard.

“I was actually at my kid’s birthday party—a laser tag party—and I got a call from my agent, and they said, ‘Hey, so I want to connect you to these Marvel guys. They want to talk to you, but they want to offer you the part.’ I don’t think it was (Kevin) Feige. I don’t know who was on the phone. But they said, ‘Hey, this is the role. We want you to do this. It’s a six-picture deal.’ I was like, ‘What?! Oh, uh, okay…’ And I’m trying to do the math. I’m like, ‘That’s 11 or 12 years. I’m not sure.’ And they’re like, ‘Well, we need to know, because if you’re not saying yes, then we’re gonna move on to the next person. So you’ve got an hour.’”

Armor Wars is a seven-issue comic book series under the Iron Man umbrella that was written by David Michelinie and Bob Layton. The series was published by Marvel Comics, with the first part (Iron Man #225) being released in December 1987. The series lasted until Iron Man #232 in June 1988. The story is based around Tony Stark discovering that his technology is not only in his hands, but the hands of evil villains as well. This of course results in utter chaos and destruction as they must come together to retrieve the technology.

Comicbook.com reported on the interview and elaborated on how Don felt about playing Marvel character James Rhodes.

“I think the most exciting part is yet to come. I think we don’t have a super-strong idea of who he is, really. Outside of that bubble of The Avengers. Outside of his friendship with Tony. Now, he’s going to be untethered from all of that. So, it’s an opportunity to discover who he is, that we have not had before with concentrated time and focus on Rhodey, and Rhodey’s journey. Hopefully, some stuff about his past. Teeing up some things about his potential future. Who knows how long this Marvel thing goes. It seems kinda unending.”

Fans are very excited about the modern-day adaptation that is currently under development. However, at this time, Disney has not announced an official release date for the new series.
