When I picked up the 2021 Ford Expedition, I knew I was in for an exciting weekend. With that new car smell and smooth leather interior, it is a luxury vehicle you and your family will thoroughly love.

As with any large SUVs, it's important to know what's under the hood. U.S. News says, "Every Expedition has a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V6 engine. It makes 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque in every trim but the Platinum, where output is boosted to 400 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque. Either way, this twin-turbo engine delivers more than enough power for everyday driving. It provides swift acceleration, as well as plenty of power for towing and hauling. It's paired with a smooth-shifting 10-speed automatic transmission."

U.S News goes on to recommend the 2021 Ford Expedition. They write, "The 2021 Ford Expedition is a great vehicle. It has a robust powertrain, balanced handling, and decent gas mileage for a large SUV, as well as a commendable towing capacity. Add to that its adult-friendly three-row seating and intuitive SYNC 3 infotainment system, and it's easy to see the Expedition's appeal."

For my test drive with the 2021 Ford Expedition, I drove up to Ogden and Farr West from the Holladay area. It was a treat to test out this family-sized vehicle. Here are a few of the things I—a non-expert—loved most.

Extra cargo space

This trim level came with 18" of extra cargo space, which could make the difference between a rooftop luggage carrier and fitting everything in the back of your car. It also made it possible to pick up large items—so if you need to transport a dresser from KSL Classifieds, you should have no problem fitting it in the back!

Automatic seats

For busy parents or anyone who values efficiency, these automatic backseats are a dream. With one push of a button, the headrests and the entire seats fold down flat. No climbing into the car and yanking them back into position. The cargo area also has features that create holding areas for your Costco haul or a plant from IKEA.

Each back seat's legroom is customizable

One of the features the salesman really sold me on was the customization of the second row of seats. You could choose to have two captain seats—like a minivan—or you could choose three individual seats. With the three-seat option, you can move each seat forward or backward to accommodate legroom and comfort. Each seat is also wide and roomy—so if you're the road trip chauffeur, even adults will feel comfortable in the back.

Interior features

4 cupholders

For those of us who love our drinks (Dr. Pepper, giant water bottle, Gatorade), the 2021 Ford Expedition is equipped for it all. The console area has two cupholders with expandable prongs to fit large or small bottles, cups or tumblers. For the backseat, there are two more built into the last section of the console. However, if you're not hauling anyone else, there are more cupholders for all of your drink options.

Big console

As an Enneagram six, I am always prepared for any scenario. Basically, that means I'm a packrat and have lots of things I would like to store in my car. Between a Kleenex box, extra flashlights, batteries, face masks and whatever else I can imagine, there is plenty of room in the console. The deep storage in the middle is a great place to stash your valuables—or hide your candy from the kids.

Camera features

Because the 2021 Ford Expedition is such a big vehicle, having an eye on every angle of the car is valuable. The 360-degree camera is an essential feature when it comes to backing out of a parking space or even your driveway. I live off of a busy street, and backing out of my driveway can be stressful even in the quietest hours of the day. The camera features on this car helped ease my mind and merge into traffic safely.

Though I didn't haul a trailer or go off-roading in the 2021 Ford Expedition, the incredible technology shouldn't be glossed over. As I understand it, the trailer feature allows you to input the specs of the trailer you're hauling. You'll tell the car the dimensions of the trailer, so it can help you reverse at the correct angles and speeds. As someone who gets sweaty just thinking about backing up with a trailer, this feature really impressed me.

There are also several different drive modes you can slip the car into, depending on the terrain you're driving through. The salesman also informed me that the vehicle has skid plates, which are helpful in the diciest of situations.

Overall, I enjoyed my time driving the 2021 Ford Expedition. If you want to test drive one for yourself, visit your local Ford dealership.
