So both clubs have some work to do this winter. But which fan base should be more fired up about its club heading into next season? Dan Patrick asked Chris “Mad Dog” Russo on Thursday if he would rather be a Yankees or Mets fan right now.

“Wow. I guess because (Steve) Cohen’s got a ton of money and I think he’ll go over the luxury tax. Plus now I think he’ll bring in Billy Beane or maybe the kid from Milwaukee, if the Brewers allow them to talk to David Stearns as the GM. I guess, and that’s a good question, it’s not great either way. I guess I say the Mets. I guess.”

Russo has been busy since the Yankees’ 6-2 loss Tuesday to the Boston Red Sox in the American League Wild Card Game.

First, he took aim at former Yankees star Alex Rodriguez, who called the game for ESPN: “A-Rod is inept. We have said this a thousand times. It’s worth saying again. He’s a terrible, terrible analyst. ... A-Rod in the booth is a mess. I mean, it’s a disaster, he was terrible, doesn’t know when to shut up.”

Then Russo put on his GM hat to see who should stay and who should go: “You’re sick of Joey Gallo. That’s the last time you ever want to see of him. There’s no way you want Gary Sanchez on your team next year. ... Sanchez, Gallo have to go.”
