How To Whitelist Email Addresses & Domains In Gmail

Gmail usually does a great job when it comes to filtering spam emails. On occasion, though, its algorithms fail, and an email that you were supposed to get ends up in the spam folder. Not many people check their spam folder that often, or at all, so that’s a problem. That’s why we’ll show you how to sort things out once and for all. In this article, we’ll show you how to whitelist email addresses and domains in Gmail.

So, for example, if Gmail ever filtered an email from your colleague, who uses an email with the same domain as you (same company), you can avoid that by whitelisting an entire domain. Alternatively, you can whitelist only one email, if that’s something you need. We’ll include some screenshots below, so that you can follow along, step-by-step. Do note that you can do this only via desktop / browser, you cannot do it via the Android app, at least not properly. That being said, let’s get started.

How to whitelist email addresses and / or domains in Gmail

The first thing you’ll need to do is open the Gmail account you’d like to use for this procedure. Once everything is loaded up in your browser, click the gear icon at the top, as shown below.

From there, you’ll need to tap the first option available aka “See all settings”.

Once you do that, a completely new menu will open, with a lot of options. What we’re interested in is one of the tabs available at the top, the one called “Filters and Blocked Addresses”.

Once you click that tab, you’ll access your filtered and blocked addresses. I’ll presume you have none here, and if that’s the case, you’ll see what’s shown below. If you do have some email addresses here already, you may need to scroll down in order to proceed. What we need to proceed, is the “Create a new filter” option.

Once you click that, a new dialog box will appear. We’re interested in the “From” field here, so, the first option at the top. In it, you can type in an email address you’d like to whitelist, or a domain. So, for example, we’ll use the “@androidheadlines.com” domain. Once you type that in, hit the “Create filter” option in the bottom-right corner of that dialog box.

A new dialog box will open next, with a lot of checkboxes. The one we’ll select is the “Never send it to Spam” one. That will make sure that emails from the email address or domain you selected never end up in spam. Once you tick that checkbox, choose the “Create filter” option in the bottom-right corner.

There you go. You’ve successfully whitelisted an email address and / or domain, you’ll never miss emails from there again.
