The recent wet weather put one Elkhart woman in a tight spot yesterday.
She says she was out for her morning walk when she fell.
Her day turned around when she got the help of a mysterious stranger.
Kay begins most days with a walk in her Elkhart neighborhood, as a way to stay healthy and get some fresh air.
"I love to racewalk, whatever time of day,” said Kay. “I had a big golf umbrella and a flashlight and headed down the street and I thought I was just fine."
A typically quiet endeavor quickly turned chaotic.
While walking in the heavy rain, Kay tripped on the uneven pavement and fell to the ground.
"Some of the sidewalks are very uneven on the street, and I hit one. I really went flying hard. I've fallen before, but never like this."
In her tumble, Kay hurt her knees, hands, shoulder, and also hit her head. Her clothes became bloody and torn. Traffic continued to drive by on Greenleaf Boulevard. At first no one came to help her. That is until a good Samaritan showed up.
"Michael appeared. This man, who didn't give a thought for if he was going to be late for work, whether there was traffic, whether there was pouring down rain, whether this little old white lady was laying on the concrete and I looked up and there was this big, black guy with a big, black beard, and I thought 'Oh my gosh'... I couldn't believe it."
Michael then helped Kay up off the ground and made sure she got home. Kay has no idea who this man is, other than for his name. She wants to find this man and thank him for helping her up and making sure she is okay.
"I wasn't thinking enough to ask him what his last name was or get a phone number or something. As I was walking home I was thinking this man should be recognized. I would really like to find out who he is and to say thank you."
