Glamorgan coach Matthew Maynard has completed his 230-mile walk through Wales wearing wellington boots.

The former England batsman raised more than £20,000 in memory of his son Tom, who suddenly died in June 2012.

Maynard took 12 days to finish the challenge, taking in the Welsh three peaks Pen y Fan, Snowdon and Cadair Idris.

It is the final major fundraising challenge undertaken for the Tom Maynard Trust.

The trust was set up nine years ago following the death of the Glamorgan and Surrey cricketer and has raised almost £500,000 and supported numerous individuals and organisations since then.

"Thank you to everyone who joined me on the walk and donated to the cause," said Maynard.

"I'm incredibly grateful for the support I've received during the challenge from our members, supporters and the wider cricket community.

"It's been a real adventure in my wellies and I'm feeling a little weary, but I was delighted to find when I woke up this morning that we had reached the target we set out for.

"With the money we've raised, we can now build a net area in Tom's name that boys and girls can enjoy and practice their cricket skills safely in, like Tom was able to as a child.

"The challenge has been one I will never forget and now that we've reached the target it makes it even more special and all the blisters worthwhile."

Maynard had a minimal support team of a physio who doubled up as a driver.

"It's been a remarkable effort from Matt and everyone at the club would like to congratulate him on his latest achievement," said Glamorgan chief executive Hugh Morris.

"The work put in by Matt and the Tom Maynard Trust over the past nine years has been truly outstanding and helped many people along the way.

"The money raised from this latest challenge will create facilities at Sophia Gardens children can play and practice in safely and a legacy in Tom's name he would be proud of.

"Work will start on the nets as soon as possible and it will be an honour to have them dedicated to Tom."
