Sony Interactive Entertainment's London Studio has just shared some more details on its next project, and it's sounding like production on the mystery PlayStation 5 game is really starting to ramp up.

PlayStation fans will probably remember London Studio best as the developer behind The Getaway, the hit Grand Theft Auto-style open-world crime game that took place in London. Released in 2002 for the PlayStation 2, it remains a firm favourite among gamers of a certain age. A poorly received sequel, The Getaway: Black Monday, was released in 2004. The franchise hasn't been seen since then.

While it's certainly the hope of fans that London Studio's new project is a return to the world of The Getaway, we have no way of knowing for sure right now. A recent tweet shared by the developer has confirmed that its upcoming PlayStation 5 title is an online one, however, and a batch of newly released job listings also give us some insight as to what's being cooked up.

Over on the London Studio website we can see that the team is currently hiring for a range of roles, including a lead character artist, senior level designer, and a senior gameplay programmer. This would certainly imply that it's still early days for the project, but it's certainly sounding ambitious at this point.

One of the more intriguing job openings is for a procedural technical artist. The ideal candidate will help to take full advantage of London Studio's "ground breaking proprietary engine to truly define a next-gen experience and push the boundaries of possibility", which sounds promising. The right person for the job will also need experience in "generating procedural worlds", which suggests a level of scope we haven't seen from London Studio before.

Last year, London Studio appointed two new studio co-heads as part of its exciting new plans. Tara Saunders and Stuart Whyte, who have both been with the company since 2017, teased at the time that it's upcoming game has "huge potential".

"I want us to dream big and realise our full potential," Saunders wrote in a post on the London Studio website at the time.

"But at the same time ensure that there is a real emphasis on ethical and sustainable game development practices. We have super strong values in place that mean we should be keeping in mind the importance of inclusivity, balance and team spirit on a day to day basis. Our next project has HUGE potential and we want to leverage that to the max by empowering the team to thrive and deliver a top quality game!"
