Far Cry 6 Third-Person Mode: How to Play in Third-Person View

Recommended Videos

Far Cry 6 features a third-person camera for the first time in series history, but there’s a catch. Far Cry is a first-person shooter, and the bulk of the gameplay is played from a first-person perspective. That all changes in Far Cry 6, but can you toggle between the two perspectives at will like you can in GTA V, Fallout 4, or Red Dead Redemption 2? Here’s everything you need to know about the third-person camera in Far Cry 6.

How to Play in Third-Person in Far Cry 6

Far Cry 6 will automatically switch to a third-person perspective when you enter Guerilla Camps and other special locations. Sadly, there is no way to play in third-person during normal gameplay. The second you leave a camp, you’ll swap back to the typical first-person camera. The game will also swap to third-person during cutscenes, which is a first for the series.

The only time during gameplay that you’ll see a third-person perspective is when you use your Supremo abilities. The camera will pull back and show Dani activating the backpack, but not much else.

Can You Play the Game Normally in Third-Person?

No, there is no way to play Far Cry 6 in third-person outside of the designated third-person areas. This could change in the future with a post-launch patch or mods on PC, but for now, you’re stuck to the usual first-person camera.

The third-person cutscenes are a nice touch for the series though, and they do a lot to improve the game’s storytelling. Switching to third-person inside Guerilla Camps also gives you the opportunity to show off your gear and cosmetic items for Dani. You really can’t see your own character in first-person and you can’t really show off your outfit unless you’re playing online co-op, so having at least a few zones where the camera pulls back is appreciated.

Far Cry 6 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Google Stadia, and Amazon Luna.
