Women's Tennis Heads to the Pacific Northwest

Facing top competition at tournament hosted by Washington
CHICAGO – This could well be one of the toughest weekends of the season for coach Marisa Arce and her women's tennis team.
After adjusting to a two-hour time difference and jet lag from a 4½-hour flight, the Blue Demons will engage in what's known as hidden-dual competition.
The Husky Invitational hosted by Washington will match up the Blue Demons against players from the Huskies, Oregon, Washington State and Portland State in a format similar to the dual-match season.
But the Seattle event is structured in a way that this weekend's matches won't count against the number of dual matches teams are allowed to play.
Washington was good enough last year to finish No. 43 in the final Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) Top 75 national rankings. Oregon concluded 2020-21 ranked No. 46 in the country while Washington State was No. 53.
Last season, the Blue Demons faced No. 57 Notre Dame and No. 70 Kansas State.
Marija Jovicic and freshman Eleanor Nobbs will lead the Blue Demons into the Nordstrom Tennis Center. Jovicic is 4-1 after the first three weeks of the season while Nobbs is 5-1 and has won four in a row.
Valentina Martin is off to a 4-2 start while Yuliya Kizelbasheva is 4-4.
The dynamic doubles team of Lenka Antonijevic and Kizelbasheva that is headed to the ITA Super Regional in two weeks leads DePaul with a 5-1 record. The Husky Invitational should prepare them well for the Super Regional in Columbus, Ohio.
Arce & Co. will open up on Friday matched up against players from Washington.
