Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James has had his fair share of controversial comments in the past. But not more than sports analyst and author Bill Simmons.

Simmons, who heads The Ringer, became popular with his bold takes peppered with pop culture references. He's also made pretty interesting remarks when it comes to discussing great players like LeBron. In a recent episode of his podcast, Simmons made an observation that would not make The King too happy (via Lakers Daily).

“I think he’s (LeBron) one of the best 10 players. I wouldn’t say he’s in the top two. I think that would be crazy to think he’s still on the Giannis (Antetokounmpo)/(Kevin) Durant level. I don’t see it. Put it this way: Could he have done what Durant did on that Brooklyn team last year? I don’t think so. In that, when everybody got hurt, could he have carried them the way Durant did? I don’t think so. Could he have done what Giannis did in those last two-and-a-half rounds? I don’t think so.”

Well, that's that.

While it's true that LeBron has regressed, it's not unfathomable to think that he's still at par with Giannis and Durant. He was having an MVP-type campaign last season before he got derailed by injuries. Entering his 18th season, LBJ still has every bit of motivation to go toe to toe with the league's elite and lead the revamped Lakers.

LeBron James has scoffed at being criticized numerous times in the past. Bill Simmons' latest quip might just make The King even hungrier than before.
