The Atlanta Hawks spent a lot of money this NBA offseason as they are beginning to lock in their core for the future. After advancing to the Eastern Conference Finals in the 2021 postseason, Atlanta wanted to keep the band together and start building up the roster around that core.

Trae Young and Clint Capela both signed extensions to remain in Atlanta for the foreseeable future. John Collins, who was a restricted free agent this summer, signed a five-year, $125 million deal to remain with the Hawks.

There will be even more difficult decisions in the coming months and offseasons for the front office to make. They will have to evaluate and decide which players they want to keep as part of their long-term plans.

Knowing they will be spending even more money in the future, the Hawks looked to shed some of the salaries they currently have.
