The Montreal Canadiens are in the midst of training camp and have some tough decisions to make in the coming days.

They are just about to step on the ice for the team’s final preseason game and some questions about roster construction still linger.

Will Joel Edmundson be ready? If not, does Kaiden Guhle make his NHL debut next week? Did Ryan Poehling play his way out of the 4th line centre spot? Could Alex Belzile or Jesse Ylonen make the team?

All of these questions were moved to the back burner earlier today. The team announced that Carey Price has volunteered to take part in the NHL/NHLPA player assistance program. This program deals with a lot of issues that could be affecting current players and we really don’t know why Price has decided to take this step.

His wife, Angela, took to social media to make a post about the importance of putting one’s mental health first.

Price will be away from the team for a minimum of 30 days as he seeks assistance for whatever it is that he is dealing with. This is about more than just hockey, and hopefully for Carey and his family, he is able to get the help that he needs in short order.

Price is coming off a terrific playoff run that helped lead the Canadiens to their first Stanley Cup Final in 28 years. They ultimately fell to the Tampa Bay Lightning, and Price had a tough offseason as he went through surgery on his hip shortly after the season ended.

Hopefully, 30 days from now he is feeling 100% and is ready to get back on the ice and stopping pucks like he did in the postseason.

All of here at A Winning Habit are enormous fans of Carey Price and are here to wish him and his family all the best in his recovery.
