Brother Day (played by Lee Pace) and his lush, royal blue garments will live on for another day. Foundation has been renewed for Season 2 at Apple TV+, TVLine has learned.
“Since my childhood I’ve dreamed of how Hari Seldon and Eto Demerzel would look and sound — what Terminus and Trantor would feel like,” showrunner and executive producer David S. Goyer said in a statement. “Now, with Season 2, our audience will get to visit more of [author Isaac] Asimov’s indelible characters and worlds, including Hober Mallow, General Bel Riose, and all the Outer Suns.
“I’m thrilled that a whole new generation of fans are reading Asimov’s brilliant masterwork,” Goyer added. “We’re playing the long game with Foundation and I’m grateful to my partners at Apple and Skydance for entrusting me with this epic. Buckle up. We’re about to fold some serious space.”
Adapted from Asimov’s influential trilogy, the series centers on efforts to preserve civilization after Dr. Hari Seldon (played by Jared Harris) predicts the (very) eventual fall of the Galactic Empire. A band of loyal followers “venture to the far reaches of the galaxy to establish The Foundation in an attempt to rebuild and preserve the future of civilization,” per the official description. “Enraged by Hari’s claims, the ruling Cleons — a long line of emperor clones — fear their unrivaled reign may be weakening as they’re forced to reckon with the potential reality of losing their powerful legacy forever.”
In addition to Harris and Lee, the series also stars Lou Llobell as Gaal, who is Dr. Seldon’s apprentice, and Leah Harvey as Salvor, a leader of the colony tasked with compiling important human knowledge. Laura Birn (The Innocents), Terrence Mann (Sense8), Alfred Enoch (How to Get Away With Murder) and Cassian Bilton costar.
I’m a bit baffled as to how a project with mediocre reviews, a big budget, and little online buzz is getting renewed. But good for people who like the show!
Show was pitched for eight seasons and eighty episodes. it was always gonna get a second season, if only to save face, but I’d be genuinely surprised if it survived beyond season three.
Because, beyond “Ted Lasso” and “For All Mankind,” AppleTV has nothing else that anyone even might talk about.
The Morning Show is doing well.
such an stupid comment without waching the series one woul say….
idiot
It’s not Asimov and although I usually consume everything scifi, I get bored a lot watching this show. I really don’t get the hype about it.
Even Asimov agreed that if they adapted foundation, some changes would be necessary in the adaptation. If they adapted literally the first book, the characters would be uni-dimensional and very, very boring. What Makes the first book great are his ideas, world and universe constructions and the scientic stuffs, like psicho-Story; and the stories in first novel are very short to create a series. And because this, i expected many changes in the adaptation, specially in a series with 8-10 episodes. So i expected much more new material in characters like Gaal Dornick, Salvor Hardin and many many Others. And the result it´s beautiful and great, they expand the Foundation in a much larger universe and a mix of the 2 preludes of Asimov. So yes, the series it´s great, and considering that is the irregular David Goyer as Showrunner, the Show it´s a good surprise.
Letto Fondazione negli anni 70 , lo sto rileggendo adesso , mi sembra che ci sia poco dell’ autore , comunque OTTO anni per la fine non li sopporta nessuno
I’ve been enjoying the show and there’s so much I find breathtaking about it. But the most incredible thing by far is how much Terrence Mann looks like old Lee Pace! It’s astounding! ;-D
This might give me the boost to watch it. I saw low rated reviews when I googled it and the first few minutes felt slow and didn’t feel like the books, but my brother liked it. Apple needs better publicity on it or something because I haven’t seen anyone else saying much about it on social media.
That’s good, I really like this show.
I think most of the people who aren’t happy with the show are folks who read the books. I can understand that. Movie and shows often don’t live up to your imagination while reading the books or source material. But I have not read the books and really like the show. It’s doing a great job of world building and character development. Happy it’s getting another season. I’m always glad for more sci-fi and fantasy.
I think it’s the opposite. This is living up to my expectations as a book reader. Aximov has always been about world building and so far that’s the complaint i’ve seen from non readers. That it’s too much world building and no character development.
Interesting. I think the character development takes time. I loved the episode about day, dusk and dawn. You can only develop characters so fast. We have only had 3 episodes. I’m very happy so far. It has a little ways to go to catch The Expanse or Battlestar Galactica. But again only 3 episodes in so far. I’m with it to the end.
I watch all of the science fiction shows – and this is one of the worst I’ve seen.
It must cost a fortune. I wish they would cancel it and spend the money making a better science fiction show.
I feel the same way about Raised by Wolves on hbo.
I was surprised at how much I liked it. The whole psychohistory thing is so dumb it’s almost beyond belief somebody would’ve written it, but the overall moves of the story are compelling all the same, and the actors are all great.
Loved Foundation. so glad they will make a second series.
Yet Rings of Power will continue and House of Dragons while better (and benefiting from GOT) is far from GOT (unless you just like the Dragons). The key will be if the 2nd series retains and grows its viewing nos. Hard to replicate other worlds and avoid a green screen hell. Hopefully the 2nd series will speed up vs padding (like most of Rings of Power)
