Adidas has introduced a Choose to Give Back resale program. Consumers can send used products to Adidas from any brand through its Creator’s Club app for reuse or for resale.

Adidas said the Choose to Give Back program is part of the company’s effort to promote a circular product lifecycle.

“We believe that great performance shouldn’t come at the cost of the environment. That’s why we’re committed to establishing a circular future for sportswear and with the Choose to Give Back program are helping people to see new possibilities to give old gear new life,” said Katja Schreiber, Adidas SVP, Sustainability.

Adidas noted that the fashion industry is one of the world’s worst polluters, with an estimated 36 billion pieces of clothing thrown away in the U.S. every year, 95 percent of which could be reused.

Initially launched in the Adidas Creators Club app to members on October 7, the program is rolling out online and in stores, in partnership with thredUP, in early 2022.

To participate, consumers can print off a Clean Out Kit prepaid shipping label through the app and use it to send clothing, used sports gear, including sneakers, and other performance apparel to Adidas If an item is not in a condition for resale, it will go through thredUP’s network of reuse partners. In exchange for sending used items to Adidas’ Creator Club, members will earn rewards.

“The end of one thing is the beginning of the next. This is the beginning of a more responsible future by keeping gear in play to help end plastic waste,” added Schreiber.
