According to a report by Spanish news outlet El Nacional, Real Madrid star Luka Modric is ready to join Manchester City if he decides to leave Real Madrid next year.

Having played 48 games in 2020/21 campaign across all competitions, it won’t be a surprise if Luka Modric reaches a similar number or surpasses it this term. However, during the summer transfer window, the veteran midfielder rejected Jose Mourinho’s offer to join AS Roma extended his stay with Real Madrid for another season, claims El Nacional.
Modric has a contract at the Santiago Bernabeu until 2022 but is already preparing to leave the Spanish club next season as he hasn’t found himself comfortable playing in Carlo Ancelotti’s system in the first stretch of the new season.
The central midfielder’s situation at Real has piqued the interest of Manchester City, with Pep Guardiola’s club having seemingly tabled a proposal to the player, the report adds.

El Nacional further states Modric has long intended to hang his boots in the United States and owing to the Cityzens’ association with Major League side New York City FC, he wants a return to the Premier League for a season to play with Guardiola’s side before heading to MLS.
It is extremely difficult to turn down an opportunity to sign a player of Modric’s quality, experience and winning mentality. The Croat has won everything with Real Madrid and could be a top short-term acquisition for Manchester City if a deal materialises next summer.
