Augustana Set for USF and SMSU Matchups

SIOUX FALLS, S.D.-- Augustana soccer stays local this weekend with matchups against crosstown Sioux Falls and a short drive Southwest Minnesota State. The team will travel to both opponents. The Friday matchup is the Vikings' second evening game of the season and will be at 8 p.m. On Sunday, Augustana travels to Marshall, Minnesota to take on the Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs at 1 p.m.

The Games
The Vikings enter their second-straight weekend away from Morstad Field and own an NSIC record of 3-1-2. The team's overall record this season is 4-3-2.

The Sioux Falls Cougars are 1-7-1 this season and 1-4-1 in NSIC conference play. The Cougars were tabbed to finish 14th overall in the NSIC Preseason coaches poll.

Southwest Minnesota State has a 1-4-1 NSIC record and a 2-5-1 overall record on the season. In the NSIC Preseason coaches poll, the Mustangs were tabbed to finish ninth overall.

The Cougars
Sioux Falls has a lone victory on the season from their visit to Winona State in September. The team's last action was on the road at Minnesota-Duluth and St. Cloud State. The Cougars picked up a scoreless tie in the Friday game against Minnesota Duluth. Ellie Ripperda, Aundria Vargas, and Hannah Welch each have scored one of the three total goals that the team has tallied this season. Vargas also leads the Cougars in shots on goal. The Cougars average 5.3 shots per game.

The Cougars have three goalkeepers that have each tallied minutes this season. Alexis Wemhoff has seen the most time on the field for Sioux Falls and has a save percentage of 0.881. Wemhoff was in net for the Cougar's lone win this season.

The Mustangs
Southwest Minnesota State enters the game coming off a tie and a win during their last matchups. The team's tie came after a nil-nil draw at St. Cloud State last Friday. The Mustangs picked up their first NSIC conference win at Minnesota-Duluth on Sunday, winning 2-1.

Sophomore Alex Lotts and junior Abbey Hoisington have each scored two of the team's five goals this season. Freshman Kirsten Wetterstrom has also scored for SMSU. Lotts is the team leader in points with six having assisted on two goals along with her two goals scored. 

Goalkeeper Meghan Harkin is the lone goalkeeper for Southwest Minnesota State and has tallied a save percentage of 0.810.

The Vikings
Last weekend, the team traveled to Northern Minnesota with bouts against Bemidji State and Minnesota-Crookston. The game against Minnesota-Crookston on Sunday saw three single-game team records being broken in a 9-0 victory.

Senior Alexis Legg leads the Vikings with four goals this season. Legg has recorded two game-winning goals and leads Augustan with 10 points. In the victory at Minnesota-Crookston, Legg scored two goals and recorded two assists for six points in the game.

Junior Sylvia Fehr is currently leading Augustana with seven assists this season and is one assist shy of tying teammate Josie Arduser for the single-season record for assists. Arduser set the record during the 2019 season.. However, Fehr has already etched her name into the Viking record books as she set a single-game record for assists at UMC with three.

Ten players on the Vikings have recorded at least one goal this season. Sophomore Annika Bard has three goals on the sheet this season. 

Sophomore goalkeeper Jillian Barkus has faced 95 shots on goal and has a save percentage of 0.804. Barkus has started in net during all nine matches this season.
