Denis Villeneuve has made some great films in his directing career with films like Sicario, Arrival, Blade Runner 2049, and the upcoming Dune. There was a time when it was rumored that he had been approached by WB to direct a Batman movie. Well, during a recent interview he shot down that rumor saying he was never approached. But, if he did make a superhero movie, it would be Batman because it’s the only character that he can relate to.

In the interview he shared, "Batman would be probably the only character that I could relate to. From what I read, like Arkham Asylum, a book like that, I got in contact with when I was an adult. It's for me, the character that I could connect to."

I assume that he’s referring to the 1989 Grant Morrison graphic novel Batman: Arkham Asylum, which is one hell of a great Batman story, and I’m not surprised that it grabbed his attention. Also, that comic seems like it’s totally his style!

I have no doubt that Villeneuve would make an awesome Batman movie, but with Matt Reeves currently involved with the franchise, I seriously doubt we’ll ever get to see what Villeneuve’s Batman would be like. And that’s totally ok! In fact, I think I’d rather see the filmmaker continue on his own journey making the kind of films he’s been making. I never expected him to jump into the superhero genre. Maybe one day he will, but right now… I’m just excited to watch Dune!

Would you like to see Denis Villeneuve direct a Batman movie?
