HEI2MAN WATCH: Matt Corral stumbles but is still in striking distance

After a 3-0 start, Ole Miss quarterback Matt Corral took the lead over Alabama’s Bryce Young heading into last week’s highly-anticipated matchup. Alas, the Crimson Tide defense humbled our Heisman hopeful by getting the Rebels off schedule and down early.

Despite the 42-21 result, Corral still finished 21-for-29 passing for 213 yards and two total touchdowns. On the other side, Young threw for 241 yards and two touchdowns, but did surrender one interception.

Entering Week 6, though, it is now Young who is even odds for the Heisman Trophy. Corral is right behind him, followed by Cincinnati’s Desmond Ritter, Oklahoma’s Spencer Rattler, and (somehow) Georgia’s JT Daniels.

Through four games, Corral has thrown for 1,210 yards and 10 touchdowns. Furthermore, he has thrown zero interceptions and holds a passer rating of 177.3 heading into Saturday’s matchup against No. 13 Arkansas. The Top-20 matchup feels like a crossroads for both programs as they are trying to flush last week’s losses and move on as the Southeastern Conference schedule gets cranked up.

Ole Miss hasn’t played at home for what seems like a month after the bye week and the road trip to Tuscaloosa so most anticipate a raucous environment for the 11am CST kickoff for the Rebs and Hogs.

Will Corral get back on the proverbial horse against a ranked opponent with a good defense?

We shall find out.
