In the latest TV show ratings, CBS’ Survivor drew 5.6 million total viewers and a 0.9 rating, dipping in the demo week-to-week yet still leading Wednesday in that measure. (Read recap.)
From there, Tough as Nails returned to 3.1 mil/0.5 — on par with its sophomore averages, but drawing a smaller crowd than SEAL Team did last season (3.9 mil/0.5). CSI: Vegas then debuted to 4 mil and a 0.4, improving on SWAT‘s typical audience in the time slot, yet respectively ranking sixth and seventh among this fall’s nine debuts thus far.
TVLine readers gave the CSI sequel series launch an average grade of “B+,” with 95 percent planning to stay tuned.
Elsewhere:
NBC | Chicago Med (6.7 mil/0.8) ticked up, Fire (7 mil/0.8) was steady and copped the night’s largest audience, and P.D. (5.6 mil/0.7) dipped.
FOX | The Masked Singer (4.1 mil/0.8) and Alter Ego (2.4 mil/0.4) were both down.
ABC | The Goldbergs (3.2 mil/0.6) ticked up… The Wonder Years (2.4 mil/0.5) and The Conners (3.1 mil/0.5) were steady… and Home Economics (1.9 mil/0.3) and A Million Little Things (1.7 mil/0.2) both dipped/presumably hit series lows. (My abacus is in the repair shop.)
THE CW | Riverdale (400K/0.1, TVLine reader grade “C”) and In the Dark (340K/0.1) both rose with their season finales.

The Live+Same Day numbers reported in our ratings column do not reflect a show’s overall performance, given the increased use of delayed playback via DVR and streaming platforms, plus out-of-home viewing. These numbers (Nielsen fast nationals, unless denoted as finals) instead aim to simply illustrate trends or superlatives. Write ZOOM, P.O. Box 350, Boston, Mass. 02134.
Chicago PD is going to burn out of storylines if they keep every week so focused on the love life’s of the squad. Not a huge fan of this Haley/Jay pairing. Mix it up with Fire or Med so that they shows are linked and when the relationships do eventually end that it doesn’t completely derail the squad.
PD has always had a high focus of the personal lives of the characters (including relationships between the intelligence members) so that’s nothing new.
Med/Fire/PD usually have a high level of of crossover in the past but Covid has prevented it the last 2 seasons. That probably won’t start again while Covid is still an issue.
Did you just start watching the show? lol The show has always put an equal focus on the love lives of the squad. This episode wasn’t even about Jay and Hailey’s relationship primarily. It was about Jay’s military background, something fans have been asking for since the series premiere, but which has never been explored. Linstead was shoved down the audience’s throat every week along with Erin’s drama for four straight years, but Jay’s background story bothers you? lmao
Also, nobody cares if you like Jay/Hailey are not. lol It’s done, the show runners have said repeatedly they are committed to the pairing, they have a huge fanbase (just as large as Linstead’s actually), they’re not ending that relationship. lol It’s now the flagship coupling of the show. Don’t like it, don’t watch. But, stop whining and acting like this show just started focusing on the team’s relationships when it always has – since day one. lol
They can’t mix the shows right now, because of CoVid. Derek Haas just said recently that they couldn’t do the crossover they had planned because of the Delta variant. He said as of now, crossovers are on hold because of that. So if you want crossovers, you’re going to be waiting a while.
Either enjoy the shows or don’t. But, stop complaining and make a decision one way or the other.
I agree with you and I like the Jay/Hailey pairing but doesn’t it seems like lazy writing to put Jay with another female partner?
That was pretty slim pickings for the Vegas premiere. I wonder if the average viewer age was under 70.
Sadly it appears that even CSI name couldn’t transform that poor ‘Touch as nails’ lead-in into anything particually amazing.
Why CBS gave CSI such a sucky time slot. It should have gotten the Thursday 9 spot and Ghosts should have hot the post YS spot.
Scheduling had alot to do with those CSI numbers. Have broadcast networks given up or what? Wednesday at 9 would have been the smarter move instead of leading out of tougher than nails…. Whatever that is.
What happened to your weekly Masked Singer & AMLT coverage? I really enjoyed those.
American Housewife should have never been cancel over Home Economics
I adore AMLT but I hope this whole season is leading to endgame.
I enjoyed CSI: Vegas. People will watch what they like live and view other likes on DVR. I was surprised how much I liked Tough as Nails. Yes, Sarah!
Exactly. That’s why ratings dips don’t really matter much, unless they are significant. Shows will ebb and flow every week in the ratings. People choose to watch something one week, the next episode doesn’t interest them, so they watch something else the next week. It’s really not a new phenomenon.
Yeah, I didn’t watch CSI: Vegas until this afternoon. I did enjoy it, am interested to get to know the new people, and will follow this story arc with interest.
Tough as Nails gets me emotionally and mentally involved each season. Great casting and great challenges.
Home Economics is so easy to love if people would give it a chance.
Survivor. Meh.
Chicago fire is waiting on the PVR. It is not exactly must see tv cliff hangers
I disagree. Chicago Fire is must see tv for me. The premiere picking up from 9×16’s cliffhanger was awesome. It’s been consistently great.
Chicago PD is now just a ridiculous soap opera where the cop stuff interrupts the BORING relationship stuff. Two couples in an intelligence squad? This is basically fantasy at this point. Even Blue Bloods separated the married cops!
CSI Vegas first ep needed to knock it out of the park. It didn’t. Grissom appeared for 20 seconds. I call SHENNANIGANS. I love the original CSI, but this just didn’t work. Still, I will hang on and give it a few eps to work.
LOL I love when people lodge this complaint against Chicago PD, as if it just started focusing on relationships when it has since day one. When Linstead was shoved down the audience’s throat for four years straight and every storyline was about Erin’s drama and Linstead’s problems, were you calling it a soap opera then? Because, it was more of a soap opera in S1-4. lol
The show works fine, and it’ll continue to work. Don’t like the storylines? Simple. Don’t watch. Just admit Jay/Hailey bothers you, because you’re a Linstead fan who still hasn’t gotten over a dead ship, even though Sophia Bush has her own show on CBS premiering at midseason. You people are so transparent. lol
CSI adjusted up to a 0.5…just barely.
Seeing these numbers just makes me sadder and more bitter about the For Life and Rebel cancellations (yeah, they still sting, LET ME BE!). Not saying they would’ve done any better if they got a new season, but no new show is holding up lately so maybe network TV needs to start considering overall viewership more heavily and the way they promote their shows.
La Brea is holding up. Overall viewership will never be considered to the extent people want it to. Ad revenue is always going to trump viewership, unless networks find another way to make money to generate ratings.
Enjoyed CSI back in the day and was looking forward to the reboot but thought it was very, very poor to be honest. Too many new characters, not enough alum didn’t help, and Gil only bothering to show up in the final 2 seconds was a let down!
I’d be curious to see the cumulative streaming numbers for CSI–on demand, Paramount+, CBS.com, and others, I suppose–to get a true sense of interest.
I loved the CSI: Vegas premier. I thought it moved along at a good pace and was a nice and tight introduction to the new crew without overpowering with the alumni. I’m very intrigued by the story of someone calling into question the original crew’s cases and the introduction of Gil at the end was necessary as it kept the focus where it should be – on the new characters.
