Disney Cruise Line unveils new experiences for kids aboard Disney Wish

Disney Cruise Line has revealed more new experiences for kids to enjoy as part of the reimagined Disney’s Oceaneer Club aboard the Disney Wish — with some featuring favorite Star Wars characters and the mice who started it all.

Setting sail next summer, the Disney Wish will offer more than just highly-themed spaces for kids onboard, but living worlds complete with magical entertainment alongside the care and expertise of Disney-trained counselors.

Star Wars: Cargo Bay

The creatures and characters of the Star Wars galaxy will be the stars of Star Wars: Cargo Bay, as kids are placed in the role of creature handlers. Here they will learn to “manage a mischievious menagerie of exotic beings from across the galaxy, including a porg, Loth-cat, worrt and more.

During the cruise, kids will use augmented reality-enabled datapads to track and study the creatures on a series of special assignments — but there’s more. The new crew will actually be joining in on a mission to deliver a pair of secret stowaways, Rey and Chewbacca, back to the Resistance.

During the interactive “Star Wars: Creature Challenge” experience, kids will be put to the test as they help feed creatures and encounter “some of the most dangerous beings in the galaxy. When things go wrong, they’ll need to call on Rey and Chewbacca for help — and even channel the Force to save the ship from destruction.

Mickey and Minnie Captain’s Deck

Designed for the youngest sailors at Disney’s Oceaneer Club, Mickey and Minnie Captain’s Deck is a nautical playground inspired by the colors, icons and magic of Disney Cruise Line. The new space will be filled with maritime-themed physical and sensory-style games and activities, like pipe slides and crawl-throughs, ship’s wheels, “busy boxes” stylized as ship controls, and life preserver seating areas.

Mickey and Minnie Mouse themselves will even be there to spend quality time with the young ones. In addition, at select times throughout the voyage, the space will be open to families for group play, and the toddlers from It’s a Small World Nursery will also get dedicated access to the club to explore, learn and play with Mickey and Minnie.

The signature offering for this space will be “Minnie’s Captain Academy,” a training session for kids to get exercise through games, dancing and maritime “drills,” as well as strengthen their minds with a series of challenges tied to STEAM principles (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics). Captain Minnie will inspect their progress and officially declare them honorary captains.

More fun for tweens and teens

Older kids will have their own places to go onboard the Wish as well, with hangouts designated for each age group.

At Edge, tweens ages 11-14 will get to have fun and make friends in a bright and colorful hangout area inspired by a New York City loft. Teens ages 14-17 will have their own space at Vibe, inspired by a Parisian artists’ loft.

And for the first time ever on a Disney ship, the Disney Wish will offer a third club for tweens and teens: The Hideaway. This new hangout will offer older kids and young adults a place to relax, listen to music and more, complete with a dance floor and DJ booth. The Hideaway will feature a more retro style and vibrant color palette, plus a “Hiya, pal” mural and disco ball lights. Located adjacent to Vibe, this venue can be opened to the teen club, closed off for tween activities, and even reserved especially for guests ages 18-20.

All three spaces offer their own unique details, entertainment, and activities, including:

• Edge will offer an indoor solarium area with a sunny overhead skylight effect, carpet patterned with grass and daisies, a back wall mural of a blue sky, and games inspired by an outdoor city park. Throughout the space, graphic art-filled photo walls will provide plenty of opportunities for tweens to capture sharable vacation photos.
• Vibe will feature regal French columns and paneled walls covered with pop art murals and graffiti; a larger-than-life painted Mickey Mouse statue; and a traditional French Morris column plastered with Disney-inspired travel posters. Teens will also get incredible views of the ocean, thanks to floor-to-ceiling windows.
• Both Edge and Vibe will offer a main lounge space with cozy furnishings, an oversized LED screen, and plenty of room for group gatherings, as well as comfortable areas for solo gaming and movie-watching. Each venue will include complimentary refreshments: Edge will have a soda bar, Vibe will serve soda and coffee drinks, and The Hideaway will serve smoothies.
• Tweens and teens will get to take part in customized, counselor-led programming designed to engage their unique interests, like a new competition themed to the Walt Disney Animation Studios film, “The Emperor’s New Groove.” The fun will even extend to other areas of the ship, with special events for tweens and teens hosted in the Hero Zone, Luna and more.
