Are you looking for a fun Christmas craft favor project that’s inexpensive, cute and heartfelt? A nice little gift for the classroom, Sunday school group or soccer team? Look no further.
I first saw these little snowmen when my youngest daughter was in elementary school. Grangeville resident Genny Lutz and her daughter, Kate, made these for Hailey’s classroom. A couple years back, I made them for my great-nephew Robby’s first-grade class.
For this project, you will need the following:
·Sheets of white copy paper, 8-1/2 by 11
·Packs of gum (I used Wrigley’s Juicy Fruit 5-stick packs)
·Pipe cleaners
·Scraps of material (flannel and fleece are best)
·Small craft pom poms
·Twine
·Black buttons of varying sizes
·Tape
·Hot glue gun
·Orange and black Sharpies or any fine point markers
Instructions (see corresponding photos):
1. Fold a piece of the copy paper so you have eight equal rectangles. Cut these out. Wrap a pack of gum like a mini present, leaving one side clean (tape to the back).
2. Cut a ½ inch wide by about six-inch long piece of material. Fray or angle ends of cloth. Tie around the “neck” area of the wrapped gum pack.
3. Cut about a two-inch piece of pipe cleaner and glue from side to side of the top of gum pack, leaving a small air gap at top, for the earmuffs. Alternative: stack two to three buttons, largest to smallest, and string with twine and tie.
4. Glue pom poms on either side of earmuffs. Alternative: Glue button hat with twine atop gum pack.
5. Place a piece of twine through the top of earmuff for a hanger. Draw a nose with the orange marker and eyes, mouth and buttons with the black marker.
