WandaVision: Kathryn Hahn Will Reportedly Lead Her Own Spinoff Series

Sources tell Variety that Disney+ is developing an Agatha-centered spinoff, in which WandaVision head writer Jac Schaffer would return.

Of course, it was “Agatha All Along.” Kathryn Hahn is set to reprise her role of nosy neighbor Agnes turned spellbinding witch Agatha in a WandaVision spinoff, sources tell Variety. The project, which is being billed as a “dark comedy,” is currently in development at Disney+, although additional details are slim.

According to the outlet, WandaVision head writer Jac Schaeffer would return as writer and executive producer on the Hahn-led series. If the spinoff is greenlit, it marks Schaeffer’s first title with Marvel since inking an overall deal with them and 20th Television in May. Reps for Schaeffer, Hahn, and Disney+ have yet to confirm the report. It’s unclear whether other MCU characters would cameo in Hahn’s series as well, but the love for her character endures. Elizabeth Olsen, who played Wanda/Scarlet Witch, called Hahn “the pelvic floor of WandaVision,” praising her “spot-on humor” and “lack of shame” to Vanity Fair

It’s fitting that Disney would angle for a WandaVision-adjacent series. After all, Marvel’s inaugural TV show scored 23 Emmy nominations for its genre-bending first season, though it walked away empty-handed. Among its nods was recognition for Hahn in the best supporting actress in a limited series category, which was won by Mare of Easttown’s Julianne Nicholson. Still, one of WandaVision’s three behind-the-scenes victories came for “Agatha All Along,” TV’s unexpected earworm written by two-time Oscar winners Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez.

News of a WandaVision spinoff confirms that the Hahnaissance is alive and well. Hahn’s upcoming projects include Knives Out 2, Apple+’s The Shrink Next Door, and her role as comedienne Joan Rivers in Showtime’s limited series The Comeback Girl. “I’m feeling really greedy right now,” she told Vanity Fair in our June 2021 issue. “There are so many roles left that I haven’t met yet. There are definitely nooks and crannies of a woman’s experience that still need to be told.”
