Atletico Madrid talisman Luis Suarez didn’t exactly leave Barcelona on good terms last summer and hasn’t forgotten how badly he was treated by Ronald Koeman.
Despite enjoying the utmost success at the Camp Nou where the Uruguayan scored 198 goals, won six La Liga titles, and a Champions League trophy across six seasons, the Dutch tactician axed him in brutal fashion.
Speaking on Twitch recently, Luis Suarez revealed the details of his 40-second call with Koeman before eventually leaving for Atletico. Via Goal:
“The call from Koeman to tell me that [I wasn’t in his plans] lasted 40 seconds, it’s not the way to say goodbye to a legend.
“First he told me that I wasn’t in his plans, and then he told me that if I didn’t get my contract sorted out I was going to play against Villarreal.
“He lacked the personality to tell me clearly if he didn’t want me or if it was really the club that didn’t want me.”
Talk about classless. After everything Luis Suarez did for Barca, this is how he was repaid. Suarez made sure to taunt Koeman last weekend when Atletico beat the Catalans, using a phone gesture after he scored their second goal in a massive 2-0 victory:

Luis Suarez’s move to the Wanda Metropolitano couldn’t have worked out any better, though. He bagged 21 goals last term en route to helping Atleti win the La Liga title, finishing seven points clear of Barcelona in the process, who finished in third. The lethal frontman already has four goals in eight appearances in 2021-22 as well.
Clearly, he’s gotten the last laugh in this situation while Koeman and Barca struggle to get results.
