Neighbours spoilers follow for UK viewers.

Neighbours has set the stage for the show's baby mystery to finally be resolved.

The show's latest episode saw local police constable Levi Canning manage to track down Britney Barnes, who'd kidnapped the baby girl that David Tanaka and Aaron Brennan have been raising for the past few weeks.

Much to everyone's surprise, Britney claimed that she was the biological mother of the child. Nicolette Stone then made a shock return with the real baby Isla, which confirmed Britney's story.

In big episodes still to come, baby Abigail – who has been living with David and Aaron for the past month – is revealed to be the daughter of Britney and Leo Tanaka. This throws David and Aaron into turmoil, as they already have a bond with the child.

Digital Spy recently chatted to Montana Cox, who plays Britney, to hear more about what's to come.

Can you tell us how the role on Neighbours came about?

"They wanted a model and I'm a model, so the opportunity got sent to my agency. I'd been looking for some different things for a while. I got the script through and I just thought: 'I want to give this a go'.

"I worked with a coach and he really helped me through it. We did a few takes and I really got into the character and I sent it off. I then heard back from my agency, who said I got the job, so that's how it all happened."

How would you describe Britney Barnes?

"When Britney arrived, I don't think you saw her as her true self because there's so much on her mind – she's very stressed out and her emotions are high. She's really out of her depth.

"Britney has just come back from New York, she's with a new family, and she's been trying to contact her ex-boyfriend, but he doesn't want to speak to her.

"She's very stressed and deflated and just doesn't know what to do. She was really going through all the emotions when she arrived in Erinsborough."

There's huge fan interest in the David and Aaron baby storyline. Were you excited to be playing a part in it?

"Definitely. The storyline has a huge shock factor and it's been quite cool to come in and play a role that's quite intense. It's a big role that makes a big change and really shakes things up."

What is Britney's point of view in the kidnap storyline?

"Britney feels so intensely guilty about giving away her baby and she didn't really know what she was doing at the time or really thought about it.

"That maternal instinct just took over. She needed to have her child back. She'll do anything and doesn't care about Aaron and David. All she wants is to have her child back."

After perhaps initially seeing Britney as a villain, do you hope the viewers understand her point of view now the truth is out?

"I think they will. Obviously, Aaron and David treated her baby like it was their own and looked after her. But in the end, Britney is Abigail's mother, and they can't contest that. So hopefully they do understand, as upsetting as it would be."

It sounds like there's some very dramatic episodes still to come, as the full truth comes to light. What can we expect?

"There's a lot of twists and turns! The fans will be taken on a huge emotional rollercoaster, not just with Britney, but Nicolette, Leo, David and Aaron. Everything is going to come out and there'll be a lot of shocks."

How would you describe Britney and Leo's relationship?

"At the start, it was very intense. It was one of those relationships where you fall really hard and it was all about love. They did everything so quickly because they had this amazing connection and got along so well.

"But then it all fell apart really quickly. In the end, Leo just got up and left, and I think that left Britney in a very confused state as well."

Next week, Britney has started looking after the baby again, but Abigail refuses to latch onto her to feed. How does that make her feel?

"It's incredibly difficult for her. I think doing this on her own and not having Leo there, she's very much by herself. She wants for her and her baby to have that connection."

Later in the week, Britney finds David and Aaron looking after Abigail without her permission. How does she react?

"She's super angry. She's just gone through this whole scenario and they keep popping up and coming back. It's her baby, not theirs and she wants to show them that."

Britney and Leo decide it's best for them to leave Erinsborough. Does Britney come to a truce with everyone before she goes?

"They do. I think between Britney and Paul there's still a lot to work through after everything that's happened, but Britney and Nicolette leave on good terms.

"By the time Britney leaves everything is fine, but it's not completely resolved. I think it's still a bit open and there's raw emotion there."

We see Britney leave, but is there a chance we could see more of her?

"I think there's a big chance you might see her return as there's definitely unfinished business, so watch this space..."
