The MLB postseason is underway, which means we're one step closer to the offseason and the excitement of free agency. For the teams already out of the playoffs, the evaluation period has already begun.

For some teams, change is on the horizon, both on the field and in the front office.

Here, we'll look at some of the latest buzz surrounding the upcoming offseason.

Max Scherzer Wants to Pitch into his 40s

Throughout the 2021 season, Max Scherzer has shown he still has what it takes to be a No. 1 starter. He doesn't intend to slow down despite his age.

The 37-year-old put together a 15-4 record with a 2.46 ERA and 236 strikeouts this season. He's set to become an unrestricted free agent and a long-term deal is not out of the question.

"Have heard Max Scherzer would like to pitch into his 40s," Jon Heyman of MLB Network tweeted.

Heyman added that the three-time Cy Young winner, who turns 38 next July, will likely be in line for a record annual salary.

Since being acquired by the Dodgers at this year's trade deadline, Scherzer went 7-0 with four no-decisions in 11 starts. He will receive a ton of interest on the open market.

Mets to Pursue Billy Beane for President of Baseball Operations Position

Multiple reports on Wednesday stated that Theo Epstein is out of the running for the president of baseball operations vacancy with the New York Mets.

New York Post columnist Joel Sherman reported that the 47-year-old spoke with Mets owner Steve Cohen, and it was determined that the position wasn't the right opportunity for him.

With Epstein no longer a candidate, the Mets will reportedly turn their attention to Billy Beane. According to Heyman, they have the "best chance" to get him out of any of their three known choices for the position.

Beane is the executive vice president of baseball operations and minority owner of the Oakland Athletics. New York's other top option is reportedly Milwaukee Brewers president of baseball operations David Stearns, but Heyman noted he's unlikely to join the Mets.

Beane addressed the rumors of being linked to the Mets position on Monday, telling reporters "to worry about this is to lend credibility to it." While he did not specifically comment on whether or not he is interested in the job, he said he had not been contacted by New York at that time.

Beane is best known for being an analytics guru. If he decides to accept the Mets position, it will represent a full-circle moment for him as he was a first-round pick by New York in the 1980 draft.

Padres Interested in Marcus Stroman

Marcus Stroman established himself as the No. 1 starter for the New York Mets this season, and he's likely set himself up for a hefty payday this offseason.

After opting out of the 2020 season and accepting an $18.9 million qualifying offer last offseason to return to the Mets, the 30-year-old earned 10 wins for the first time since 2017. He finished the year with a 3.02 ERA and 158 strikeouts in 179 innings pitched in one of the best statistical seasons of his seven-year career.

One team already has its eyes set on Stroman, according to Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune, who reported he is "among the names" mentioned as a starter the San Diego Padres could pursue this offseason.

They already have a deep rotation with Yu Darvish, Blake Snell, Joe Musgrove and Chris Paddack. Mike Clevinger, who is recovering from Tommy John surgery, will also be in the mix.

Despite the depth of the group, San Diego dealt with multiple injuries but underperformed with a team ERA of 4.10.

Stroman would be able to provide some stability to the team and wouldn't have to deal with the pressure of being the team's No. 1 in the rotation.
