Satellite giant Sky has unveiled a TV that contains its set top box and eliminates the need for a dish, instead streaming content directly into the viewer’s home via broadband.
Sky has been known for its satellite dishes for 30 years, but the new Sky Glass smart TV integrates all of the technology necessary to receive Sky broadcasts. It is also equipped with built-in speakers and a subwoofer.
The 4K device will launch on October 18 in a range of three sizes and five colours. Sky says customers will be able to buy one of its TVs as they would a mobile phone, with flexible payment options.
The 43-inch model will be available for £13 a month, the 55-inch version at £17 a month, and the 65-inch unit at £21 a month.
These monthly payments are on top of your usual Sky subscription, which means you’d pay £39 a month for a 43-inch Sky Glass TV with the Sky Ultimate TV package. Prices include a two-year warranty and free delivery.

Customers will also have the option to buy a Sky Glass set outright at £649 (43-inch), £849 (55-inch) and £1,049 (65-inch).
The actual hardware itself features an Ultra-HD panel with Quantum Dot technology capable of displaying more than one billion colours, plus 360° Dolby Atmos sound.
Sky Glass will be available in ocean blue, ceramic white, racing green, dusky pink, or anthracite black, with matching remotes and customisable speaker fascias. The TV comes with an integrated mounting bracket and a colour-matched stand
The device, the first product launch since Sky was acquired by multinational telecoms firm Comcast in 2018, is voice-activated and can be woken from standby mode by simply walking past it. It also provides a platform for third-party apps such as Disney+ and Netflix.
Sky plans to launch a dedicated 4K camera for Sky Glass next year for video calls and gaming.
